Description of the Position:

As a Peer Educator you are required to complete a certain amount of training. Some of the required training includes but is not limited to:

NASPA Certified Mental Health Training: June Cohort You will receive an email and will need to create an account and join the NASPA Certified Peer Educator Cohort (there is one every month but you should sign up for the June cohort. If June does not work for you contack Andrea to let her know what month you prefer so she can register you properly. Once you receive your email. YOU MUST REGISTER WITHIN 24 HOURS! If you have completed this training you do not have to do this again. Approx.. 10 hours

MANDATORY Fall Training. Move back to campus on Tuesday August 27th between 911:00. You will receive food and housing during your training free of charge. Training will be from 9:00 am 5:00 pm on Aug.th. Help with NSO and additional training will take place Sat. Aug. 31 Tuesday Sept. 3rd. This training time is critical. If you are unable to attend any training it must be cleared with Andrea Marshall in advance! Some evening training sessions will also occur during this time. It is a lot so make arrangements ahead of time to block off the week! A detailed schedule will be provided at a later date. Approx.. 50 hours

Bystander Training Presentations: ALL Peer Educators must provide NSO training on Monday Sept.2nd from 12:30 4:30 pm 5 hours plus prep time)

Summer Communication: Read and Respond to communication from the Wellness Center Administration.

Peer Substance Coaches: You will meet as a small group to go through the Peer Coaching Training. This will not occur over the summer but may occur during our first week of fall training. Dates are TBD. Approx. 8 hours

Failure to complete these trainings may result in dismissal from the Peer Educator Position. All Absences must be negotiated with Andrea or Laura at least 24 hours in advance.

During the school year the Peer Educator Position consists of the following responsibilities:

  • Office HoursWork in the Wellness Center office for two onehour office shifts a week and pick up shifts as needed.
  • Weekly Wellness Center Staff MeetingAttend and contribute to the mandatory weekly staff meeting with all Peer Educators on Thursdays from 11am12:30 pm.
  • Content Creation Develop design and edit poster content on a variety of topics that represent the Wellness Center.
  • CheckIn MeetingsMeet weekly with the Director for Wellness and Health Promotions to review content. Meet weekly with your team to discuss progress towards program and team goals.
  • Bonding Attend mandatory team bonding events 34 times a semester and help to create positive team relationships.
