To plan organize direct and perform maintenance repair and overhaul of a variety of gasoline and diesel powered light and heavy duty and construction type vehicles and related equipment; serve as an assistant to a shop superintendent in a large shop or as the only supervisor in a small shop or over a fleet of motor pool vehicles; perform related work.

This position is open to current regular Boise State University employees only.

Campus Security Authority: This position is identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) per the federal law known as the Clery Act. Per this law the employee is required to report any crimes that he/she becomes aware of to the Clery Compliance Officer. Additionally CSAs are required to complete annual training prescribed by the Clery Compliance Officer.

Primary Responsibilities
The general functions are: mechanics body and fender repair service station operations machining/welding or equipment operation. Instructs shop personnel on completion of necessary paperwork; prepares job orders and estimates costs of labor and parts; writes specifications and prepares requisitions for materials; codes and charges costs to proper funds; maintains inventories; prepares records and reports; conducts studies to determine operational efficiency.
Inspects/operates vehicles and equipment to diagnose problems and determine repairs needed; issues repair orders; directs and/or performs the maintenance; designs and fabricates special devices and components to improve and enhance vehicle system capability; operates specialized shop tools and equipment; maintains preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and vehicles; keeps current on the latest technology.
Assigns work to staff; sets work schedules; trains staff; inspects work and evaluates performance; meets with suppliers and technical personnel setsup seminars to insure staff is current on technology.

Public Safety Standard Employee Responsibilities
Ensures customer service for the entire Department and campus community.
Knows the Department its employees and how the department functions.
Engages in Departmental problemsolving for organizational issues; makes recommendations for Department efficiencies and advancement.
Plans and coordinates a variety of special administrative projects and assignments.
Renews job knowledge by reading professional journals participating in education opportunities and belonging to professional organizations.
Represents the Department and the Division in select working groups committees and partnerships both internal and external to the University.

Public Safety Supervisor Responsibilities
Provides leadership and management of the Fleet team under the supervision and coordination of his/her chain of command.
Includes the hiring discipline and termination of administrative personnel.
Manages employees scheduling work assignments communication and personnel development.
Evaluates employee performance gives regular feedback and conducts annual performance reviews.
Leads a unified team for the entire Department assisting with communication team building professional development incentives and compensation review programs.
Ensures customer service for the entire Department and campus community.
Monitors work activities to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards policies and procedures.
Manages workflow and productivity of personnel to ensure that the needs of the department and campus community are met.

Supervision and Daily Shop Processes
The individual will report to the Fleet Manager. This position will be responsible for the supervision of three or more positions and is responsible for facilitating the recruitment hiring training supervision assessment and evaluation of parttime and fulltime staff. The individual must monitor evaluate and correct any deficiencies related to the cost and quality of work performed on assets by the staff.
The individual will be responsible for the integration of the new Fleet Management System(s) at the vehicle and equipment level. This will be a critical responsibility going forward and the expectations and responsibilities will expand as the system is fully implemented.
The Fleet Shop Foreman is responsible for maintenance and repair scheduling for 328 units.
The Foreman is responsible for all service and inventory record keeping warranty claims daily expense tracking compliance with Boise State and State of Idaho policies and all other regulatory compliance.
While working closely with the Fleet Manager RMI and EHSS the Fleet Shop Foreman is responsible for facilitating training modules for vehicle and equipment use and care to ensure driver safety.
The Fleet Shop Foreman working closely with the Fleet Manager shall facilitate the acquisition and disposal of all related vehicle and equipment assets. The Foreman shall facilitate all internal processes required for acquisition and disposal as required by policy 9040. Additionally the Foreman shall develop and modify existing internal processes to achieve the best efficiency. They work closely with the Fleet Manager to set program goals and objectives and to develop plans to achieve those objectives.
Reconcile all expenses related to University vehicles/large equipment and their operation.
o Assist in revision and projection of yearly budget
Ensure unit compliance with all Federal State & local laws and regulations related to vehicle repair shop operations and vehicle and mobile equipment use and care.
Provide outstanding customer service by responding to patrons needs complaints and suggestions in a timely and professional manner.

Other Mechanical Duties
The Foreman must perform and assist staff with mechanical duties to maintain efficient work flow.
Perform other duties as assigned

Ability to communicate and convey information effectively.
Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs uses repair and maintenance.
Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential matters and information.

Good knowledge of: the diagnosis maintenance and repair of heavy and light duty gasoline and diesel engines and related mechanical hydraulic electrical and electronic component systems; the practices materials and tools used to repair and refinish damaged vehicular bodies and parts; the operations of a large multifaceted mechanic/repair shop; machine/mechanic shop safety practices.

Some knowledge of: supervisory practices.

Experience: using and caring for the tools and equipment common to a multifaceted equipment repair shop; training staff in equipment maintenance and repair; fabricating and welding specialized equipment devices.

Currently have a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
