Founded by young cancer patients our mission is to provide essential programs services and resources that positively impact the lives of 1225 year olds facing their own diagnosis dealing with a close family members cancer or grieving the loss of a loved one. Canteens success is built on the capability and motivation of its people. We are now seeking a National Cultural Consultant to join our team where you will ensure the culturally safe and responsive practice programs and services across Canteen and Cancer Hub services. This is a highimpact role for a person with extensive experience in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families young people allied health mental health case management and/or psychooncology (or relevant related field and a natural ability to connect and support.

About our role

  • Contribute to operational and strategic plans/interventions to ensure the cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families are integrated into service delivery.
  • Provide key cultural advice in relation to culturally appropriate practices programs and services.
  • Cultural consultation to psychosocial staff to support skill development in comprehensive assessment case formulation session planning therapeutic tools and strategies clinical documentation in alignment with evidencebased practice.
  • Create and deliver appropriate training for psychosocial staff across Canteen and Cancer Hub to increase skills in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young peoples and families experiencing grief and loss.
  • Contribute to the development implementation and evaluation of service initiatives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Identify and develop relationships and partnerships with key community groups and organisations across Australia that are of key strategic importance to help extend Canteens RAP and direct service reach with Indigenous Australians impacted by cancer
  • Frequent consultation and communication of cultural advice to key internal stakeholders including Cancer Hub Impact National Programs National Volunteers State Managers Marketing & Comms Fundraising etc.

The role can be based from any Canteen office across the country with some flexible arrangements available.

About You

  • Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (Psychology Social Work Counselling Occupational Therapy) are strongly desirable
  • Candidates eligible for full registration or membership with AHPRA AASW PACFA OTA or other are strongly desirable
  • Minimum of 7 years experience and demonstrated expertise in working with young people allied health mental health case management and/or psychooncology (or relevant related field)
  • Demonstrated skills in providing culturally safe training and support Demonstrated experience in providing culturally safe advice regarding the experience of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander children young people families and communities
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership with multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated experience in effective networking and collaboration with other service providers to build strong interagency networks
  • Highlevel written oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office products
  • Outstanding communication skills and a natural ability to connect
  • A compassionate valuesbased approach.

*Due to the nature of Canteens work you will be required to (very) occasionally work weekends and evenings. Advance notice will be given when this is the case and Canteen does have a Time off in Lieu policy for taking leave as agreed with the supervising manager.

This role involves occasional intrastate and interstate overnight travel.

To ensure an ongoing commitment to the success of Canteen all applications must be able to:

  • Successfully complete and maintain a current National Police Check and Working with Child Check relevant to the individuals state jurisdiction.
  • Undergo an extensive screening process prior to appointment to guarantee the safety of all Canteens stakeholders.
