Job Description

Job Summary
Learning Assistants will support student learning in selected lecture courses. Learning Assistants may work with other student Learning Assistants and a specific instructor to plan coordinate and deliver weekly learning forums to support content being taught in lecture courses. Learning Assistants must feel comfortable explaining concepts covered in the course they will be supporting. Supported lecture courses are NRS 325 and NRS 326 (Pathophysiology and Pharmacology I and II). Learning Assistants for Nursing are hired for the full academic year to support learning in both fall and spring semesters. Learning Assistants will be paired with a specific instructor; instructor pairings may change from fall to spring depending on teaching assignments. Learning Assistants will typically work 34 hours per week during the term. This time includes 1 hour to meet with your lecture faculty 1 hour to prepare your learning forum and 2 hours to host learning forums each week. Learning Assistants will lead two separate learning forums with day/time to be decided in coordination with faculty and students. You may need to spend extra time reviewing content related to topics you will be teaching. If selected to be a Learning Assistant you must also enroll in BIO 485 Learning and Teaching in STEM 1 credit scheduled on Fridays from 1:352:30pm). This is a 1credit upper division Biology course that counts towards elective credits. The course would be taken two times for credit in both fall and spring semesters to total 2 elective credits. Asynchronous coursework for BIO 485 will begin prior to the official semester start. The course will then meet regularly during the semester and will include coursework appropriate for a 1credit course. Academic work in BIO 485 will introduce learning and teaching. To facilitate your success as a Learning Assistant the Learning Assistant Team (Learning Assistants and faculty directors) will meet/assign work prior to the beginning of classes. Minimum Qualifications
Successful completion of NRS 325 and 326 with an overall grade of B or better 88 or better based on SONHI grading scale). Satisfactory progress toward a degree.

Preferred Qualifications
An established relationship with 325/326 instructor(s) this can be from previous enrollment in a 325/326 course or another course outside activity etc. A strong recommendation from an instructor of NRS 325 or 326. At this time it is not necessary to send a letter the hiring manager will check in with faculty as needed. Students with Federal Work Study in Financial Aid Package preferred. Students with Green Dot Certification preferred.
