NDDOT Hiring Salary: $5587/month

Summary of Work
Prioritizes data collection within general guidelines established by the Traffic Data Section supervisor to ensure accurate complete and timely collection of traffic information.

Deploys traffic data collection equipment using ArcMap and GPS.
Troubleshoots and repairs equipment for accurate operation.
Assists in analyzing and integrating traffic data into GIS.
Prioritizes equipment placement for optimal data collection.
Trains temporary employees on software hardware and equipment.
Assigns temporary employees weekly traffic count locations during the season.
Utilizes data collection equipment to develop process improvements and maintain data collection inventory.

Recommends and proposes improvements for data collection processes and equipment.
Performs TMC using video surveillance for automated vehicle movement tracking.
Responsible for the use of MS2 software to upload traffic data counts correct uploading errors and update station locations where necessary.
Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; recommends necessary repairs.
Evaluates section activities for improvements and reports to the supervisor.
Ensures department vehicles follow preventative maintenance schedules.
Oversees interns and district personnel assisting with traffic counts.
Performs general equipment maintenance on traffic data collection equipment.

Conducts annual preventative maintenance on road tubes before use.
Maintains and tests both class and volume counters documenting results.
Conducts yearly maintenance on all traffic equipment before the next cycle.
Assists with updating GIS roadway information and developing traffic data sensor procurement documents as assigned.

Assists the Roadway Information Section with gathering and updating roadway characteristic and inventory data.
Assists the Pavement Management Section with the preparation of District books and other reports.
Assists the Traffic Data Section Lead with developing WIM and ATR repair projects.

Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for an Engineering Technician IV you must have at least six years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. Collegelevel course work and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a yearforyear basis. Traffic Data Collection is preferred.

To be considered for an Engineering Technician III you must have at least four years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. Collegelevel coursework and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a yearforyear basis. Traffic Data Collection is preferred.

To be considered for an Engineering Technician II you must have at least two years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. Collegelevel coursework and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a yearforyear basis. Traffic Data Collection is preferred.

To be considered for an Engineering Technician I you must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a basic understanding of the concepts needed for this type of work.

At any level youll need to be able to work in all types of weather on a variety of uneven or slippery surfaces have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry several items with a total weight of 50 pounds and have a valid North Dakota Class D drivers license in order to travel to project locations.
