Verona was founded by two serial entrepreneurs Mr. Poshak Agrawal and Mr. Rahul Subramaniam and backed by some of the biggest names in global technology such as Mr. Michael Novogratz (exFortress Investment Group CEO of Galaxy Group Investments) & Mr. Rishi Jaitly (exTwitter CEO for Asia Middle East and Africa).
Security and Science make the basis of Verona where before matchmaking there will be Fintechgrade authentication to ensure fraud detection. Through a deep appreciation for the science of compatibility with Verona we will be using AI for matchmaking based on an individuals core & shared values.

Role Brief
The Director of Engineering will spearhead the endtoend development of the Verona mobile app making it a seamless and engaging experience for our users. This role involves overseeing both iOS and Android app development backend architecture and infrastructure. You will work closely with product design and other engineering teams to ensure app scalability performance and security while driving innovation in user experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- EndtoEnd App Development Leadership:
- Oversee the complete app development lifecycle for both iOS and Android platforms from ideation to deployment and beyond.
- Architect design and implement the core features of the Verona app with a strong focus on performance scalability and security.
- Ensure the mobile app is responsive reliable and provides a seamless user experience across multiple devices and platforms.
- Mobile Architecture & Technology Stack:
- Design and implement app architecture using modern mobile frameworks such as React Native Flutter or native iOS/Android development frameworks.
- Lead the backend architecture to support the app ensuring smooth API integration and effective data management using Node.js Python and microservices.
- Implement secure and efficient cloud infrastructure with experience in AWS Google Cloud or Azure to support mobile app scalability.
- App Optimization & User Experience:
- Drive continuous app performance improvements (load times memory optimization latency reduction) to enhance user experience.
- Implement realtime monitoring and feedback loops to detect and resolve performance bottlenecks quickly.
- Work closely with the product and UX/UI teams to incorporate user feedback and deliver features that improve engagement and retention.
- Backend and API Development for App:
- Lead the design and development of RESTful APIs and GraphQL for mobile app functionalities.
- Ensure that the backend architecture scales to handle large volumes of app traffic with minimal latency.
- Ensure secure data handling and management with robust practices for authentication authorization and encryption.
- Kubernetes and Cloud Infrastructure:
- Utilize Kubernetes for managing and deploying containerized services ensuring scalable and resilient app performance.
- Lead the adoption of serverless computing for optimizing backend resources and app performance.
- Team Leadership & Collaboration:
- Manage and mentor the engineering team working on the mobile app fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
- Build strong crossfunctional relationships with product managers designers and data teams to align app development with business goals.
- Define clear project timelines milestones and KPIs to ensure timely delivery of app features and updates.
- Security & Compliance for Mobile Apps:
- Implement security best practices for mobile app development including secure authentication mechanisms data encryption and compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g. GDPR CCPA).
- Perform regular security audits and ensure the app adheres to industry standards and regulations.
- App Feature Scaling and Innovation:
- Constantly evaluate and integrate new technologies to keep the app at the forefront of innovation in mobile development.
- Drive efforts to integrate AIdriven features realtime updates and push notifications to enhance user engagement.
Hard Skills Required:
- Proven experience in mobile app development (iOS and Android) using frameworks such as React Native Flutter or native mobile development.
- Expertise in backend development (Node.js Python or similar) and API design (REST GraphQL).
- Experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration and cloud infrastructure management (AWS/GCP/Azure).
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and mobilespecific DevOps practices.
- Proficient in mobile app performance optimization database management (SQL/NoSQL) and cloudnative architectures.
Requirements:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related field preferably from a Tier 1 institution (IITs NITs or equivalent).
- 5 years of experience in software development with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience leading the development of mobile applications (iOS and Android) at scale.
- Strong technical background in app architecture cloud infrastructure and modern development frameworks.
- Excellent leadership skills with experience building and managing highperforming engineering teams.
- Ability to thrive in a fastpaced startup environment with evolving priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a tech startup.
- Strong knowledge of usercentered design principles and experience in creating consumerfacing applications.
- Familiarity with data security privacy regulations and best practices in mobile app development.
