Dean of Student Services (Administrator)

Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students.

The Dean of Student Services at Hinds Community College serves as the primary point of contact for their assigned campus and acts as the main liaison for all Student Services. The Dean maintains direct communication with departmental leads to oversee daily operations and staff within student services. They address student concerns advocate for their needs and actively engage in strategic planning policy development and the implementation of programs aimed at enriching the student experience.

By fostering collaboration with faculty staff and leadership the Dean plays a critical role in promoting student success enhancing enrollment and retention efforts and creating an inclusive campus culture. Additionally the Dean is responsible for developing and implementing initiatives that engage students support their wellbeing and align with the colleges mission to foster academic and personal success for all students.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in crisis management and student advocacy.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations affecting student services (e.g. FERPA Title IX ADA).

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Masters degree in higher education administration counseling student affairs or a related field (doctoral degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in student services or related areas

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Maintain knowledge of diversityrelated issues legislation and best practices.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact on the designated campus providing leadership guidance and campus oversight.
  • Manage daytoday operations of the assigned campus coordinating with student services departmental leads to deliver highquality services.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration with departmental leads faculty staff and other campuses to enhance the student experience
  • Lead and manage the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) to proactively address student behavior concerns.
  • Act as the Deputy Title IX contact for the campus handling student reporting.
  • Coordinate student conduct processes ensuring adherence to institutional policies.
  • Develop implement and enforce policies and procedures related to student conduct rights and responsibilities while ensuring institutional compliance with state and federal regulations including FERPA Title IX and ADA requirements.
  • Oversee initiatives designed to enhance student engagement retention and overall success.
  • Collaborate with student organizations faculty and staff to create meaningful opportunities for student leadership development and involvement.
  • Update and maintain the student handbook and current information on the student services webpages and forms.
  • Manage departmental budget ensuring and consistent financial oversight.
  • Direct programs and initiatives that advance student learning diversity equity and inclusion.
  • Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for staff within the Division of Student Services.
  • Collaborate with institutional effectiveness and other departments to assess and measure the impact of student services programs.
  • Assist in all areas of student services as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the appropriate authority.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

(if applicable) Supervise the administrative assistant in the Dean of Students Office ensuring adherence to organizational policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing hiring and training staff; planning assigning and directing work; evaluating performance; providing recognition and discipline; and addressing complaints and resolving issues.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and the employee is occasionally required to perform job responsibilities in the outdoors and off site.
