About the role
Located in the Faculty of Arts on the land of the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people Indigenous Studies is a multidisciplinary Program that aims to equip future generations with insights arising from Indigenous Knowledges an understanding of First Nations peoples and cultures and the skills to address contemporary challenges in Australia and beyond. The Program places a premium on being researchled communityengaged and globally recognised as a leading Australian hub for Indigenous Studies. We seek to appoint a Professor with outstanding capacity to teach and research in Indigenous Studies.

The Professor in Indigenous Studies (Education & Research) will make innovative and distinguished contributions to scholarship and research leadership and a commensurate contribution to the work of the University. The Professor will provide leadership in their field of research within the University and discipline and within the scholarly and broader community. The Professor will foster excellence in research research capability and research training.

About you
We are seeking an exceptional academic to join our team as a Professor in Indigenous Studies. You will be a committed educator who inspires through engaging teaching practices a distinctive researcher with a strong academic vision and a confident leader ready to shape the future of the Program. You bring an inclusive approach valuing and incorporating the perspectives and ways of knowing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples into teaching and research. Your experience demonstrates an ability to create meaningful partnerships with communities and deliver impactful results. Your work will involve balancing teaching research and leadership. While teaching is conducted inperson at the Parkville campus your dedication to collaboration with colleagues and students will shape a cohesive and supportive learning environment. As a Professor (Level E) you will lead with distinction making innovative contributions to scholarship building research capabilities and inspiring your peers within the university and beyond.

Essential Key Selection Criteria

  1. PhD in a relevant field with proven success in Indigenous Studies scholarship and securing research grants.
  2. Demonstrated excellence in teaching with the ability to develop courses and create inclusive learning environments for diverse student cohorts.
  3. Proven academic leadership experience including team building staff development and contributing to strategic planning to advance the discipline of Indigenous Studies.
  4. A proven track record of highly developed leadership with a demonstrated ability to provide strategic focus and direction to an organisational unit or department.
  5. A strong record of supervising graduate researchers to successful completion.
  6. Established track record of forming partnerships with Indigenous communities corporations or Traditional Owners on national and/or international levels.
