POSITION SUMMARY:

The Weatherization Housing Specialist assists with the administration of the Weatherization in accordance with the approved work plans and budget the general policy guidelines established by the Agency and funding source and applicable laws procedures and regulations. Orders weatherization and/or repairs materials on/in homes; performs construction work at Agency facilities; ensures good operation and maintenance of assigned vehicle and tools; educates customers on energy conservation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Interpret work orders and direct contractors about the job scope tools and materials required.
  2. Perform home diagnostic testing such as blower door duct blaster room balancing worst case combustion testing combustion appliance testing and other indoor air quality testing to assure home is safe for the occupant.
  3. Meet with clients to discuss weatherization measures to be performed.
  4. Install and oversee the installation of weatherization measures such as: preparing an attic for insulation installation. Install house fans repair heating ducts air sealing insulating removing and installing doors and windows weather stripping etc. as required by job work order.
  5. Complete job reporting requirements.
  6. Operate Agency vehicle driving defensively to transport materials to job sites in a safe manner following agency policies and safety procedures.
  7. Coordinate organize and participate in onsite weatherization and home repair work.
  8. Act responsibly to protect and maintain confidential information.
  9. Prepare equipment inventory and gasoline usage reports along with minor maintenance repairs as required
  10. Evaluate job site and workinprogress for compliance with OSHA standards.
  11. Set the example and maintain a professional positive and courteous demeanor. Must have an ability to work harmoniously with other employees and the general public when performing job duties.
  12. Willing to accept and perform other work or special projects as assigned for the purpose of improving agency programs.

Requirements

Experience and Skill Requirements: The following experience and skill requirements are considered essential:

Experience:

  • Preferred 5 years of experience in residential carpentry or weatherization activities or related fields

Skills:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Good written communication skills
  • Use Microsoft Office applications and other computer software as applicable to the position

Education and Knowledge Requirements: The following education and knowledge requirements are considered essential:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of building construction
  • Must be Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified as a BSP/BAT/BAP within 6 months of hire date or when training becomes available from funding source.
  • Possess or obtain within 6 months OSHA 10 Hour safety and Lead Smart Renovator Certifications.

Other Requirements:

  • Must have a valid drivers license an acceptable driving record per the program have reliable transportation provide proof of insurance and must be insurable under agency policy
  • Must pass required background checks

While performing the duties of this job the employee must use hands to finger handle or feel; frequently stand walk sit and talk or hear reach with hands and arms climb or balance and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. Must be able to work in confined spaces such as attics and crawl spaces as well as work from ladders and staging. Must be able to carry and use carpentry/weatherization tools and equipment. Regularly required to carry materials or equipment weighing up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work is performed in a variety of home settings which at times can have poor indoor be unsanitary and have risks associated with unruly pets. Drives medium to large size utility truck and drives and works outside in all types of weather.
