Managing Editor Fairfield County
Hearst Connecticut Media Groups journalists cover communities all over the state serving readers across platforms including our sites like CTInsider app newsletters social media accounts and more for nine daily and 21 weekly newspapers.
The Managing Editor Fairfield County will help lead excellence across multiple newsrooms at the largest media network in the state. This dynamic leader will be joining HCMG at a time of growth spurred by quality awardwinning journalism both locally and statewide.
This person will be responsible for coaching and editing reporters across Fairfield County coordinating coverage with other editors and pushing the boundaries on story forms.
We are looking for a talented editor who will continue to evolve what we do both in real time as the news happens as well as strategically in the long term. With a focus on local news and enterprise and an emphasis on digitalfirst storytelling this newsroom leader is a forwardlooking journalist who understands the quality cadence and various formats of stories needed to inform readers.
The candidate must have a strong grasp of the operations of all newsroom departments as well as newsroom standards and journalistic principles. This leader should also have a strong track record when it comes to diversity equity and inclusion from evolving and expanding the breadth of our coverage in this vital area to supporting a thoughtful and inclusive culture within our newsrooms.
Duties and responsibilities:
Works collaboratively with editors other reporters photographers and audience team members to tell impactful stories across platforms that engage and retain local subscribers and other readers.
Conceptualize and assign stories aimed at growing digital subscriptions guiding staffers through the reporting process and editing their work with excellent command of grammar usage and AP style.
Elevate our journalism by seizing opportunities for indepth enterprise and investigative stories at the local regional and state level.
Communicates quickly and effectively with reporters to break news online and follows up when appropriate with more indepth enterprise pieces.
Demonstrates a high comfort level with analyzing and interpreting metrics and uses them to inform coverage decisions in realtime and the longterm.
Develops the talents of staffers offering constructive criticism of their work. Coordinates with managers in other newsrooms and noneditorial departments on projects.
