We are currently looking for a highly motivated Lab Administration Research Technician to support Dr. Carolyn Bertozzi at Stanford University in Palo Alto CA. In the 21st century explorations at the interface of chemistry and biology will spawn new medicines and diagnostics that improve human health technologies for probing natural biology and roadmaps for creating synthetic forms of life engineered to serve human needs. The Bertozzi labs research centers on creating new platform technologies that promote these endeavors as well as applying chemical approaches to study systems that elude more conventional methods of biological inquiry. Examples of technologies that drive their research are bioorthogonal chemistries sitespecific protein modification methods and synthetic glycopolymers that emulate cell surface glycoproteins. This support role will serve as backup to the Lab Manager and will perform daytoday operational tasks such as maintaining adequate supplies for experimental needs assist in equipment maintenance and help manage safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. The ideal candidate will be incredibly organized detailoriented assertive and have a strong interest in laboratory operations along with a genuine desire to help support the Bertozzi labs goals. What youll do:
Maintain laboratory consumables and reagent inventories.
Order and receive supplies and equipment.
Create and maintain overall organization of the lab.
Use autoclave and dishwasher as needed.
Prepare media and stock solutions.
Attend and participate in laboratory meetings.
Assist with service contracts and repairs of laboratory equipment.
Assist in maintaining records of asset locations and participate in periodic asset inventories.
Assist in organizing lab events.
Work efficiently and cooperatively to support a large and diverse team of graduate students postdoctoral researchers and research scientists.
Scan paper lab notebooks into digital format and upload to the labs Dropbox account.
What you bring:
Bachelors degree in chemistry biochemistry or a related field is required.
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with molecular and cellular biology experimental techniques.
Solid understanding of underlying scientific principles.
Mouse handling experience preferred but not required.
Strong attention to detail with highly accurate work product.
Good computer skills including proficiency with the Mac platform and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Able to interact effectively with a wide variety of people at all levels.
Ability to use good judgment in responding to inquiries.
Strong organizational skills and ability to work efficiently.
Ability to be a team player who can work well both as part of a large group and independently.
Ability to keep accurate records of work performed.
Physical Requirements
Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet). Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors low dose radiation contamination by toxic chemicals and acids and presence of carcinogenic substances.

$23.60 (minimum) $29.52 (midpoint) $38.37 (maximum)Pay Type:
HourlyHHMIs salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidates education previous experiences knowledge skills and abilities as well as internal consistency when making job offers. Typically a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
