Job Summary
The Assistant Director for Programming and Development is responsible for coordinating the planning implementation and assessment of all programming initiatives in the residence halls. The incumbent also has primary responsibility for the coordination of undergraduate/graduate student staff recruitment selection training and ongoing staff development/education. This position also advises the Residence Hall Association RHA . The Assistant Director for Programming and Development is responsible for the supervision of undergraduate and graduate staff community development responding to resident concerns student counseling administrative and facility management and participation in department initiatives and campus life. The position requires an ability to promote student academic success; provide leadership for positively managing a diverse residential community; and applying student development responses to residence hall community development that are supportive of strong nurturing welcoming and inclusive communities in the residence halls. This position also assists with all major functions of the Office of Residence Life including but not limited to room selection openings closings health & safety inspections room & meal plan assignments room & meal plan cancellations room changes damage billing ID card access authorization furniture inventory and is also involved in the judicial process. The incumbent is responsible for the management and operation of a group of residence halls. Duties also include crisis intervention within the residence halls discipline and participation in the Senior Staff Duty Group (Residence Life professional and graduate student staff). The Assistant Director for Programming and Development reports to the Director of Residence Life. This is a 12 month fulltime professional livein position.
Required Qualifications
1.Masters Degree in Student Personnel/Counseling Higher Education Administration or related field required. 2.Minimum of 13 years prior experience (including livein experience). 3.Must possess and demonstrate strong interpersonal communication (oral and written) and human relations skills in addition to effective administrative supervision organizational time management and problem solving skills. 4.Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students faculty staff and administrators. 5.Must possess a thorough understanding of the role and purpose of residence hall living as it applies to student development and a commitment to fostering diversity in the residence community. 6.Knowledge of computer systems for data management word processing and other related applications. (Datatel experience preferred). 7.Willing and able to work nonstandard hours as required for work related commitments including evenings and weekends. 8.Incumbents are required to live on campus. 9.Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
