Job Description

Opioid Prevention Special Projects Coordinator

Department: CBS
Exemption Status: NonExempt
Pay Grade(s): 10/11 $33.29 DOE)

Purpose: This position oversees special projects regarding Opioid prevention education and awareness in the Behavioral Services department.


Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
Lead efforts to provide community residents with education about Opioid prevention abuse addiction recovery and maintenance.
Coordinate special projects including:
o Culturally responsive Opioid awareness campaign
o Planning coordination and oversight of community awareness/healing events
o Ensuring all materials produced are culturally responsive to Southeast values and Traumainformed
o Other projects as assigned by senior management
Coordinate meetings as required to carry out projects.
Maintain meeting minutes and notes on project statuses.
Identify potential problems with projects and recommend solutions to management.
Adhere to budgets provided.
Provide mentorship and guidance to staff supporting the work.
Create facts sheets about Opioids.
Travel to rural communities.
Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure participants rights to privacy as needed.
Develop positive working relationships with team members and with other tribal and local service providers including collaborating with support agencies as needed.
Engage in professional development activities to maintain working knowledge of theories principles and program guidelines in the area of Substance Use and Behavioral Services.
Compile statistical data in a timely manner.
Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge Skills & Abilities. A comprehensive set of capabilities required to perform job tasks effectively:
Must be able to maintain a personal and professional code of ethics.
Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System.
Knowledge of applicable Federal State and Tribal law regulations rules policies and processes. Including substantial knowledge of relevant specialized fields such as 42 CFR and HIPAA requirements.
Strong verbal written and interpersonal communication skills with persons from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural groups.
Work from a strengthbased approach.
Ability to work independently and follow verbal and written directions.
Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff and participants in all circumstances.
Strong knowledge of computer software programs including Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent prioritization and time management skills.
Experience within the social services arena or related systems.
Ability to work flexible hours (including occasional evening and/or weekend activities).
Commitment to selfcare.
Knowledge of Tlingit & Haida and Alaska Native cultures.
Understanding and implementation of tribal values.


Minimum Qualifications (education experience skills):
Bachelors degree in social work psychology human services or equivalent
Understanding of traumainformed and culturallyaffirming care
Must be 21 years of age with a Valid Drivers License


Preferred Qualifications (education experience skills):
Five 5 years of relevant work experience or education in the behavioral health field
Two 2 years of project management experience


Physical Requirements. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation:
The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary requiring routine walking standing bending and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs.
Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:
Some travel may be required on small aircraft or ferry.
Certain positions at Tlingit and Haida may have exposure to certain hazardous materials or conditions. The supervisor will review these if applicable.
