Job Description
The Structural Engineer will play a key role in performing and overseeing technical designs development of projects from conceptual to final design oversee the preparation of contract plans and documents and mentor junior staff. The primary focus of this position is bridge engineering; however there will also be building assignments typically related to public worksrelated structures such as wastewater treatment plant structures pump stations salt sheds etc. If you are passionate about structural engineering and contributing to impactful projects we encourage you to apply and be a part of our dynamic team.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in and lead the preparation of bridge and building design documents including design calculations AutoCAD plans specifications and quantities.
- Prepare formal reports.
- Occasionally take part as a member of a field crew on structural inspections.
- Supervise/coordinate and mentor junior staff.
- Collaborate across internal disciplines and office locations.
Preferred location is BETAs Lincoln office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Skills Required:
- Bachelors degree in civil engineering
- Massachusetts or Rhode Island Professional Engineer (PE) License
- 7 to 12 years of related engineering experience
- Bridge design experience
- MassDOT design experience
- Strong background in structural analysis and theory
- Strong technical and critical thinking skills with excellent attention to detail
- Strong AutoCAD skills
- Excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills
- Enthusiasm to learn and willingness to take on responsibility
- Willing to work in a collaborative team environment
- Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
- Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation
Preferred Experience:
- Finite element analysis skills
- Building experience
- RIDOT experience
