Our community works daily to think critically creatively and morally so that we can serve God with purpose.Job Title: Social Studies Teacher Grades 912Department: AcademicsReports to: Principal Director of Curriculum and InstructionJob SummaryThe Social Studies Teacher is responsible for creating an engaging and intellectually stimulating classroom environment where students develop a strong foundation in historical knowledge critical thinking and civic engagement. The teacher will encourage students to analyze historical events social structures and political systems while fostering discussions that connect past and present issues. This position requires a commitment to academic excellence inquirybased learning and developing responsible global citizens.Social Studies Course Offerings:World HistoryU.S. HistoryGovernment & Politics / AP U.S. Government & PoliticsEconomicsAP U.S. HistoryAP World HistoryPsychology / AP PsychologySociologyPrimary Roles and ResponsibilitiesPlan and implement rigorous and engaging lesson plans aligned with the C3 Framework for Social Studies Common Core Standards and AP curriculum (if applicable).Teach designated course sections and contribute to schoolwide academic and extracurricular programs.Use historical inquiry primary sources and discussionbased learning to develop students analytical and research skills.Incorporate current events and civic engagement to help students make connections between history and contemporary issues.Use data effectively to assess student growth and adjust instruction accordingly.Foster a classroom culture of inquiry debate and respect for diverse perspectives.Utilize technology and projectbased learning to enhance student engagement and historical understanding.Communicate effectively with parents and families to support student success.Support the Catholic Identity of the school by integrating valuesbased discussions into lessons when appropriate.Participate in schoolwide activities including assemblies service learning and spirit events.Be an active member of the Carroll adult learning community including attending all faculty meetings and professional development sessions.Other duties as assigned.QualificationsTeaching experience preferably in an urban high school setting.Strong content knowledge in U.S. History World History Government and/or other social sciences.Certified to teach in MD DC or VA or willing to obtain certification within three years.Demonstrates strong writing and communication skills organization collaboration and adaptability.Has a growth mindset and a commitment to differentiated instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners.Dedicated to continuous professional growth and development.Minimum Educational Requirements:Bachelors degree in History Political Science Social Studies Education or a related field with a commitment to social justice and working with high school students.Minimum Experience Requirements:Teaching experience and certification preferred; however certification must be obtained within three years of hire.Other Requirements:Knowledge of the Catholic faith beliefs and practices with an understanding of the educational mission of the Archdiocese of Washington and Archbishop Carroll High School.The ideal candidate possesses a positive attitude strong communication skills a collaborative leadership style and cultural sensitivity.
