The mission of the Global Environment & CO2 Strategy team is

1 Identify and investigate environmental risks

2 Monitor environmental performance

3 Advice and support the sites on environmental related issues

4 Manage environmental related regulatory aspects

This function is part of the Regulatory Strategy Axis of the Global Environment & CO2 Strategy team. Close cooperation and coordination with the other members of the team is needed.

The function is located in Brussels.

What youll do

  • Follow up on updates and changes in the REACH regulation and other relevant regulatory frameworks regarding chemicals. Evaluate the impacts of any legislative initiative regarding chemicals on our activities develop technical advocacy positions for ArcelorMittal business andadvise the organization on necessary actions.
  • Be ArcelorMittals REACH Only Representative and pilot ArcelorMittal REACH and Product Safety Steering Committee.
  • Ensure that the interests of the company are adequately expressed through participation or representation of ArcelorMittal at technical environmental committees of relevant associations and consortia: Iron Consortium (chairmanship) Boron & Phosporus consortia (steerco member) Eurofer REACH/chemicals policy WGs Alliance des Minerai Minraux et Mtaux Substances WG APEAL REACH WG
  • Manage the preparation and submission of REACH dossiers (Registrations and Notifications) when needed. Drawing up of Safety Data Sheets and periodically update them for our products involved(e.g. byproducts). Prepare REACH authorization dossiersfor our products involved.
  • Provide technical support regarding development of Occupational Exposure Limit Values (OELV) and water Environmental Quality Standards (EQS) on European level and regarding hazardous chemicals disclosure requirements.
  • Ensure compliance of ArcelorMittal with applicable chemicals requirements by setting the necessary procedures of activities to be carried out at the different levels of the organization.
    Develop corporate procedures on minimum requirements of the various elements of a Chemicals management system. Support segments/sites on the implementation of a proper Chemicals management system (within ISO14001 and an appropriate Chemicals management database.
  • Continuous support to the sites on the practical implementation of the applicable chemicals regulations: inform provide support advice and training on e.g. the correct labelling of hazardous chemicals storages preventive measures for soil protection protective measures for worker when using hazardous chemicals establish a groupwide harmonization and determine bestpractices.
  • Support Purchasing teams and R&D teams on the present and future compliance and development strategy regarding hazardous chemicals e.g. substitution of very hazardous products to less hazardous products. Participate at relevant partnership meetings with key suppliers.
  • Prepare and carry out audits with regards Chemicals to check the correct implementation of the applicable chemicals regulations and the internal procedures.
  • Support the Environmental Impact & Toxicity Manager and the Risk & Compliance Manager in providing understanding and interpretation of environmental impact studies epidemiological and health impact studies and environmental quality reports.

What are we looking for

  • University degree (Chemistry Chemical/Biochemical Engineering Ecotoxicology Toxicology or equivalent)
  • 10 years work experience on chemicals management both legislative follow up and implementation.
  • Knowledge and/or work experience on the areas of ecotoxicology and epidemiology is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of steelmaking or experience in an industrial sector is an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communicative skills (English) are required
  • Exceptional problemsolving skills.
  • Personal organization and planning skills
  • Leadership and people skills
  • Strong analytical capabilities
