The Construction & Maintenance Department is responsible for the construction maintenance and operation of the Companys natural gas distribution system.
We are looking for a Pipe Layer VI to join our team!
Important Note: This role is considered safety sensitive and as such you may be required to undergo various background screenings. This may include but is not limited to a driving record abstract criminal check a company sponsored medical and drug testing.
This position reports to our Sanford Operations Center in Sanford North Carolina.
Installs natural gas pipe in ditches.
Manually digs around various utilities.
Pressure tests steel and plastic natural gas lines.
Participates in the repair of thirdparty damage to natural gas lines and various types of gas leaks.
Performs location of natural gas lines and facilities.
Completes pipe maintenance activities.
Installs test charts.
Sets up common Department of Transportation approved work sites.
Effectively flags traffic.
Safely drives a company vehicle.
Maintains the vehicle inventory.
Operator Qualifications involve written guidelines and requirements natural gas employees must follow to ensure the safe and responsible operation of natural gas pipelines. Required annual Operator Qualification testing involves both written and handson components to ensure those who perform covered safetysensitive tasks on the natural gas system are trained knowledgeable and qualified.
Pipe Layer VI (at least 12 months experience)
Completed high school or equivalent (i.e. GED).
Possess a valid drivers license with a safe driving history.
Possess a valid Commercial Drivers License (strongly preferred) OR able to obtain a Commercial Drivers License within 6 months of employment.
Ability to understand and follow safety and environmental policies procedures and protocols.
Ability to don and be annually fit tested for selfcontained breathing apparatus (SCBA) equipment.
Knowledge and skill with common hand and power tools (i.e. shovel screwdriver pipe wrench drill reciprocating saw etc..
Ability to adhere to safe working and defensive driving procedures.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills for positive customer and contractor interactions are critical.
Ability to work as a team member within a diverse team.
Basic computer and internet navigation skills are key.
Availability for overtime as needed.
Availability for natural gas emergency response during the workday as well as in the evenings and some weekends when oncall.
Must be willing and able to meet a 45minute emergency response time from the geographical center of the Sanford area. Emergency response time is a critical measure for the Company and candidates are required to consistently meet this requirement including when oncall.
Flagger experience and/or certification.
Bilingual (Spanish) candidates.
