Summary
The Health Economics Research Scientist leads the design implementation and oversight of projects and initiatives for the Department of Global Pediatric Medicine (GPM) and St. Jude Global (SJG). Under the GPM directors supervision and as assigned. Acts as a liaison with other members of GPM and SJG and its collaborators to ensure coordination and success of departmental regional and/or global initiatives and departmental requirements. GPM is seeking a detailoriented Health Economics Research Scientist to assist in the design management implementation and oversight of projects and initiatives within and for the Department of Global Pediatric Medicine (GPM) and St. Jude Global (SJG). This pivotal role serves as a section/project team lead for a rapidly growing epidemiology and health economics unit focused on applying decision science and costeffectiveness analyses methods to inform decisionmaking at the individual and population levels in different disease areas including childhood malignancies and other catastrophic diseases. A unique aspect of this program is the opportunity to integrate realworld data collection into applied research. This is a unique opportunity to learn new content in many different disciplines as well as to develop and conduct new research projects that will be implemented around the world and published in highimpact scientific journals.
Responsibilities
The Health Economics Research Scientist will be responsible for:
Guide strategic planning efforts for program development and integration with GPM and SJCRH strategic initiatives as well as help the team prioritize projects in the pipeline based on urgency and readiness.
Construct costing and costeffectiveness models to compare costs and clinical outcomes of several interventions and their comparators.
Conceptualize and create novel costing budgeting and forecasting tools to address health economics questions for a wide range of topics.
Design and lead literature reviews to map out and summarize already published materials about different health economics and finance topics.
Conduct descriptive and basic statistical data analyses to support project and early manuscript development.
Coordinate visualization development with web development teams.
Process large amounts of observed and processed data for economic analyses and parameter estimation for decisionmodels.
Ensure the integrity of datasets used in analyses through development of essential data cleaning checks and data backups.
Design and support implementation of primary data collection tools among global partners.
Apply economic insights in interpreting results.
Draft and edit materials for publication and presentations.
Present research at national regional and international conferences.
Organize and facilitate collaborative meetings within St. Jude and with global partners.
Create data visualization tools for stakeholders including cost tracking budget allocations and auditing reports to facilitate informed decisionmaking.
Coordinate education capacity building patientcentered care and research efforts in LMICs managing projects involving research quality improvement and education/training.
Utilize healthcare and LMIC experience to serve as a liaison between St. Jude and collaborators coordinating partner sites
Lead centralized efforts to evaluate grant opportunities and coordinate grant applications.
Oversee award budgets and processes for the programs and projects within the region.
Mentor less experienced team members.
Act as a liaison with other members of the department and collaborators to facilitate crossdepartmental research activities and ensure coordination and success of departmental regional and/or global initiatives and departmental requirements.
Travel to and engage with global collaborators (travel estimate 15 time).

Minimum Education
Bachelors degree in any clinical or pharmaceutical discipline. Alternatively a bachelors degree in mathematics or economics preferred.
Masters degree or PhD in Health Economics preferred.
Minimum Experience:
Minimum Requirement: Bachelors degree with 6 years of relevant postdegree work in health economics preferred.
Experience Exception: Masters degree with 4 years of relevant postdegree experience (OR) PhD with no experience.
Experience in at least one programming or scripting language and at least one statistical package with R and TreeAge preferred.
Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets experience and training licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
