The Cook is responsible for managing and operating the kitchen ensuring that highquality meals are prepared and served in accordance with established menus portion control guidelines and dietary requirements. This role plays a key part in maintaining a clean safe and sanitary kitchen while working collaboratively with supervision and staff to meet the nutritional needs of residents.

Who are we looking for

An experienced longterm care cook responsible for assisting with daily food service operations maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards and supporting the dietary team to ensure highquality meal preparation and service for residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the kitchen and cooking area in a safe orderly and sanitary manner.
  • Prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities while ensuring meals are tasteful and appealing.
  • Follow prepared menus and portion control guidelines.
  • Accurately prepare special diets as needed.
  • Record food temperatures for each meal.
  • Prepare pureed foods as required.
  • Work cooperatively and harmoniously with personnel across all departments.
  • Ensure quaternary solution levels are maintained in sanitizer buckets.
  • Assist in serving meals efficiently and courteously.
  • Clean the cooking area serving carts and ensure all cleaning schedules are followed.
  • Report resident care concerns and potential issues to the Administrator and/or Director of Nursing.
  • Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
  • Ensure the presentation of food is visually appealing for residents.
  • Exhibit strong teamwork and willingness to work under supervision.
  • Supervise dietary staff in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a cook in a hospital or longterm care facility
  • Must obtain a Food Handlers Card
  • Experience as a Line Cook Prep Cook or Dietary Team Member preferred
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition and dietary restrictions
  • Ability to adapt meals for special dietary needs
  • Understanding of food safety protocols and sanitation practices
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Dependability to work scheduled shifts
