Job Description
Sheridan is currently seeking to fill the position of Associate Dean Magna School of Skilled Trades. The Associate Dean is responsible for providing leadership to the faculty staff and students in several specified programs within the Faculty. This includes leading the development delivery and review of programs and supervision of teaching and learning processes within the Faculty to ensure quality and relevancy of program outcomes. It also includes the planning and administration of resources and the development of industry partnerships and initiatives in collaboration with other departments within the Faculty and College.
The Associate Dean plays a key role in attracting and developing talent creating an engaging work environment and managing performance to ensure faculty commitment to quality teaching professional development and currency in their discipline. They will contribute to building a strong identity positive reputation and a clear sense of direction of programs through educational objectives that are current with industry and community relevant to student needs and consistent with the Faculty and College strategic direction.
The Associate Dean will also play an active role in identifying and driving capacity for our growing skilled trades program and be engaged in several new lab projects and program introductions upcoming in concert with lab managers and scheduling managers.

What Youll be Doing
- Supporting and enabling the future vision direction and evolution of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology and specifically how it will continue to differentiate and elevate itself as a leader in education in Canada as well as internationally;
- Providing sound academic leadership and direction to the faculty and staff in the Faculty in order to ensure a strong team environment and culture that fosters creativity innovation excellence continuous improvement and interdisciplinary collaboration;
- Fostering an effective and participative environment for faculty staff and students in the teaching /learning process and is accountable for engaging all in the academic community;
- Maintaining a high level of department performance through effective recruitment selection development performance management and evaluation of fulltime and part time faculty and staff in their program cluster;
- Liaising with local provincial national and international levels to research and develop appropriate linkages or partnerships with the community governments educational institutions business and industry and to ensure appropriate programs and services are delivered;
- Strategically developing recommendations for enrolment targets and budget projections;
- Contributing to the development of a strong identity and positive reputation by championing new program development program renewal partnerships excellence in teaching and learning and applied research within his/her program cluster that is consistent with and supports Sheridans vision and strategic directions;
- Developing program budgets and enrolment plans in conjunction with the Dean Operations Manager and Faculty leadership team and managing both to ensure the provision of appropriate facilities and resources.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for education along with:
- A Masters degree in a related field and a solid understanding of the trades industry and educational framework within the skilled trades. Completion of a Journeyperson Designation (Ontario Certificate of Qualification or Red Seal) is beneficial.
- Seven years experience working in a postsecondary educational environment and/or significant management/leadership experience in the manufacturing/construction sector in a related discipline (Equivalency will be considered).
- Demonstrated experience cultivating and contributing successful team environments by applying excellence in leadership collaboration team building effective communication exceptional interpersonal and management skills.
- Strong connections to the Skilled trades profession / industry with an understanding of emerging trends & issues.
- With an understanding of cultural diversity and employment equity the successful candidate will cultivate and contribute to a successful team environment by applying excellence in leadership team building effective communication exceptional interpersonal and management skills.
- Postsecondary teaching experience with knowledge of adult learning principles curriculum design program development and applied research is beneficial
- Demonstrated creative problemsolving critical thinking and project management skills and an ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously are essential.
- The ability to model and interpret data and reports identify business strategies and work with faculty and staff to implement opportunities is a critical skillset.
- Commitment to the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning and to a studentcentred environment is a must.
