Fulltime Driver/Operator

Benefits
Starting Wage*: Starting Pay at $23.50 per hour. Annual step raises available up to 11 years of service with the department.
*Qualifying candidates may receive lateral entry dependent on experience and qualifications.
Holiday Pay: Eligible for 12 paid Holidays 2x hourly base pay rate.
PTO: Starting at 144 hours. Seniority date will be honored and taken into account to determine the tier of PTO hours earned.
Retirement: TCDRS Mandatory Participation at 5 with optional deferred compensation 457b plan.

PAT & Interview Process:

PAT Testing & Interviews: Week of April 21 2025

Physical Agility Test:

  1. 100 ft. aerial climb and descend. Candidate must not stop and must be a smooth climb to the top of the platform. Candidate shall wear workout attire helmet gloves and Class III safety harness within 5 minutes. 3minute rest period.
  2. 40yard 200 lb. Rescue Dummy Drag (workout attire helmet gloves and SCBA). Candidate must drag the dummy without stopping within 2 minutes. 3minute rest period.
  3. 12 flights of stairs 8minute time limit (workout attire helmet gloves and SCBA). 3minute rest period.
  4. 1mile run 10 minutes time limit applicant cannot stop or walk (regular workout attire).

Firefighter Skills Agility Test:

  1. Extend and retract a 24foot extension ladder to the second story of the training facility.
  2. Start vent saw. Climb 24 ft ladder to the roof line and return to the ground.
  3. Catch hydrant using a 5inch supply line while pulling 100 ft of hose and placing hydrant valve on the secondary cap.
  4. Deploy a 1 inch attack line to the second story of training building and flow a continuous stream for 60 seconds.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Is familiar with and abides by department expectations policies rules regulations and operating practices.
  2. Maintains physical and emotional health/wellness as required to complete assigned duties of this job.
  3. Safely performs all duties and assigned tasks.
  4. Has a working knowledge of station territory streets target hazards and location of water sources and hydrants.
  5. Responds with his assigned crew to emergency scenes and planned events and actively safely and professionally participates in all assigned activities company preplans life safety surveys of commercial and public buildings and facilities station duties training drills and public relations events while under the supervision of a Captain and/or Chief Officer.
  6. Wears and uses personal safety equipment and personal protection clothing as required by site conditions assigned tasks and in accordance with standard operating practices and expectations.
  7. Is courteous and professional in all interactions with the public and with fellow firefighters officers and other emergency response partners.
  8. Maintains personal hygiene appearance and station spaces in accordance with expectations.
  9. Performs visual and operational checks on the systems components tools and equipment of department apparatus and other vehicles so that the operational status of the vehicle and associated systems components tools and equipment is in a state of operational readiness
  10. Documents all visual and operational checks on approved maintenance and inspection forms so that all items are checked for operation and deficiencies are reported.
  11. Operates assigned fire apparatus and other vehicles on both private and public ways so that the vehicle is operated safely and in compliance with all applicable laws and departmental rules and regulations.
  12. Operates backs maneuvers and positions assigned fire apparatus and other vehicles around obstacles and in restricted spaces so that the vehicle is operated safely in compliance with all applicable laws and departmental rules and regulations and without striking obstructions.
  13. Operates assigned fire apparatus and other vehicles using defensive driving techniques so that control of the vehicle is maintained and safe clearance zones are observed.
  14. Operates all fixed systems tools and equipment on assigned fire apparatus and other vehicles so that each system or piece of equipment is operated in accordance with the intended use of the system tools and equipment and applicable department operating practices.
  15. Receives and transmits information via telephone radio or facetoface communication so that all necessary information is obtained communications equipment is operated correctly and the information is relayed promptly and accurately.
  16. Responds on assigned apparatus or other vehicle to emergency or nonemergency scenes so that the apparatus is correctly mounted and dismounted and seat belts are used whenever the vehicle is in motion.
  17. Establishes and operates in work areas at emergency and nonemergency scenes so that department operating practices are followed safety equipment is utilized protected work areas are established and assigned tasks are performed only in established protected work areas.
  18. Connects a fire department pumper to a water supply as a member of a team so that connections are tight and water flow is unobstructed.
  19. Produces effective hand or master streams given the sources specified in the following list so that the pump is engaged all pressure control and vehicle safety devices are set the rated flow of the nozzle is achieved and maintained and the apparatus is monitored for potential problems:
  20. Pumps a supply line of 2 65 mm) or larger so that the correct pressure and flow are provided.
  21. Produces a foam fire stream so that properly proportioned foam is provided.
  22. Supplies water to fire sprinkler and standpipe systems so that water is supplied to the system at the correct volume and pressure.
  23. Completes incident reports and other required reports accurately and in accordance with department practices.
  24. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge
Fire Suppression. Thorough knowledge of fire suppression practices to include fire behavior building construction suppression systems fire prevention. Incident Management. strategy and tactics and knowledge of emergency vehicle operations and basic maintenance needs including fire engine aerial and medical apparatus.
Emergency Medical Services. Thorough knowledge of the provision of emergency medical care and emergency response principles.
Emergency Management. Working knowledge of largescale emergency and disaster management to include the National Planning Frameworks to prevent protect respond recover and mitigate against all threats and hazards.
Incident Management. Working knowledge of incident management systems Blue Card incident command and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
Safety/Security. Working knowledge of department safety expectations and standard operating practices. Working knowledge of situational awareness operational readiness and resource management in light of applicable NFPA OSHA ANSI and related standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able read write and speak English
  • Must be U.S. citizen by birth or naturalized OR if not a U.S. citizen immigration status must be current and permit the applicant to work a fulltime job in the U.S.
  • Minimum of 4 years of firefighting experience with a recognized municipal industrial or DoD fire department of comparable size and complexity.


Required Certifications by April 14 2024:

  1. TCFP Intermediate Firefighter
  2. TCFP Driver/Operator Pumper
  3. EMS: TX DSHS EMTBasic or higher
  4. NIMS IS 100 200


Preferred Certifications

  • TCFP Driver/Operator Aerial
  • TCFP Fire Instructor I
  • TCFP Fire Officer 1
  • NIMS IS 700 800
