Job Description
Main Purpose of the role
The R&D Lead Engineer is responsible for guiding and overseeing the development efforts within the organization. This role involves leading an indirect team to innovate design and develop new products or improve existing ones. The Lead Engineer will collaborate with crossfunctional teams to ensure that projects are completed on time within budget and meet the companys quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers.
- Set clear goals and expectations and provide regular feedback and performance evaluations.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.
- Project Management:
- Plan manage and oversee development projects from conception to completion.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time within scope and within budget.
- Develop project plans timelines and budgets.
- Development:
- Identify and prioritize new research and development opportunities.
- Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments.
- Design prototyping testing and validation of new products or improvements.
- Utilising Design for Manufacture and Value Engineering techniques to ensure a smooth transition from design concept into manufacture. Design and detail to ISO standards.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with other departments such as marketing production and quality to ensure alignment and integration of development efforts.
- Liaise with external partners suppliers and industry experts to drive innovation.
- Technical Expertise:
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends technologies and best practices.
- Provide technical support to the Development team.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of all Development activities.
- Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management.
- Ensure proper filing and accessibility of all technical documents.
What skills are we looking for
Were looking for an Engineer with a HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 57 years experience in development or bespoke machine design. Strong leadership project management and problemsolving skills are essential along with proficiency in SolidWorks and the ability to apply engineering calculations to support designs.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing projects with commissioning and site experience. Additional expertise in electrical software pneumatic equipment or circuit design particularly in the food industry would be advantageous.
