The Position:
Boarding Staff play avital role in fostering a supportive and engaging experience for boardingstudents. They ensure students individual needs strengths and talents arerecognized and nurtured while providing academic and socialemotional guidance.With an understanding of adolescent development Boarding Staff offer emotionaland social support within a structured and safe boarding environment.
Boarding Staff reportto the Head of Boarding and work collaboratively with other boarding teammembers to provide comprehensive care and ensure student wellbeing. They workclosely with the Health Centre and faculty to provide a supportive and caringenvironment for all boarding students.
Boarding Staff arerequired to live on campus during the school year. They must be able tocommit to working a rotating schedule of day evening overnight and weekendshifts.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Ensure thatstudents overall needs are met by actively monitoring and supporting theirphysical health mental wellbeing social development behavior and emotionalresilience. This includes facilitating access to health services promotingpositive social interactions implementing behavior management strategies andproviding emotional support through active listening mentorship andintervention when necessary.
- Superviseevening study.
- Support andimplement boarding programming.
- Lead andmentor a boarding advisory group.
- Organize andfacilitate activities for student both on and off campus.
- Communicateseffectively with parents teachers and student support and faculty as needed.
- Maintainsprofessional accountability boundaries responsibility and model appropriatebehaviour.
- Establishboarding expectations aligned with the Code of Conduct school handbooks andother school policies for students and carry out disciplinary measures whennecessary.
- Manage andmaintain the Boarding School to ensure a safe secure and clean environment byconducting regular inspections and completing duties necessary to the smoothfunctioning of the Boarding School.
- Coordinatesafety checks and oversee adherence to regulations in accordance with theSchool Emergency Procedures.
- Maintainconfidentiality of sensitive issues and materials.
- Support aprogram/activity in the day school i.e. academics athletics performing artsor other clubs.
- Contribute tomaintaining an environment of inclusion in accordance with the Schools sharedvalues of respect teamwork and collaboration.
- Any otherresponsibilities in a variety of circumstances as required by the Head ofBoarding School and the Assistant Head of Boarding.
Qualifications Knowledge and Experience
- 3 years ofrecent relevant education and/or experience ideally in Education Recreationand Health or youth care settings.
- CertificateDiploma or Degree in education or youth care related field.
- Experienceworking within a diverse team.
- Experiencesupporting students with diverse backgrounds and identities.
- Current FirstAid/CPR certification; CPR Level C with AED is an asset.
- Ability tosuccessfully obtain Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) criminal record checkclearance.
- Must be ableto work evening overnight and weekend shifts as part of a work schedule.
- Experienceworking in a boarding school setting/ living and working in a dorm.
- Understandingof the developmental stages of adolescents including their health and wellbeingneeds.
- Keycompetencies and emotional intelligence in selfawareness selfmanagementempathy initiative and accountability.
- Ability toassess daily operations and make good judgement decisions and recommendationsbased on the values of the school.
- Excellentcommunication skills both verbal and written.
- Commitment todealing effectively with conflict and managing interpersonal relationships in atimely and professional manner.
- Comfortablewith general computer skills.
- Excellentorganizational skills.
- Ability towork independently as well as collaborate in a team environment.
- Supporter ofacademic initiatives and cocurricular activities for students.
