Director of Music/Pastoral Assistant


The Big Picture

University Christian Churchis a Word and gospelcentered multiethnic church community located in the Los Angeles community of Ladera Heights. We passionately worship and serve the Triune God with heart soul mind and strength. We aim to radiate Christian love to those within our community as well as to passionately and intentionally present the message of the cross to our community and broader city.We seek a Pastoral Assistant who can also serve as the Director of Music.




Requirements

Position Summary:This position combines two roles


The Pastoral Assistant 2029 Hours)will support the senior pastor and other ministry leaders in the daytoday operations of the church. This role is designed to assist with administrative tasks pastoral care and ministry coordination to enable the church leadership to focus on the spiritual needs of the congregation. The Pastoral Assistant will provide a broad range of support including office management communication event planning and elements of pastoral care and leadership.


The Director of Music/Assistant Pastor of Music 1520will be responsible for leading the congregation in worship through music ensuring that worship services are spiritually vibrant edifying formative and rich. This role requires spiritual maturity musical skill leadership ability and a passion for fostering Christcentered disciples and developing a healthy culture of worship within the church. (See specific responsibilities further below)


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Administrative Support:
    • Assist the senior pastor with scheduling meetings appointments and churchrelated events.
    • Prepare and proofread correspondence and other church communications as requested.
    • Manage the church calendar and ensure that all meetings and events are organized efficiently.
    • Maintain and organize church files including member records event details and important documents.
    • Handle churchrelated office tasks such as managing phone calls emails and regular mail.
  2. Pastoral Care:
    • Assist the senior pastor in providing pastoral care to church members including making phone calls and sending emails to those in need (e.g. those in the hospital grieving or facing life challenges) as well as occasional visitations.
    • Coordinate and schedule pastoral care visits ensuring that members receive appropriate support during difficult times.
    • Organize and assist certain meetings for church members as needed (under the guidance of the senior pastor).
  3. Worship Service and Event Coordination:
    • Support the planning and of worship services ensuring all logistics are in place such as service flow volunteer coordination and communication with worship teams.
    • Assist in organizing church events programs and activities including conferences retreats and community outreach initiatives.
    • Help prepare for and coordinate special services (e.g. baptisms weddings funerals communion services).
  4. Communication and Outreach:
    • Assist with church communications including creating and distributing newsletters bulletins and social media content.
    • Manage church databases keeping contact information for members volunteers and visitors uptodate.
    • Support the development and implementation of outreach programs helping connect with the community and engage new members.
    • Respond to inquiries from church members and the community in a timely and professional manner.
  5. Volunteer Coordination:
    • Assist in recruiting scheduling and managing volunteers for church services events and ministries.
    • Maintain records of volunteer participation and ensure volunteers are properly trained and equipped for their roles.
    • Foster positive relationships with volunteers and encourage ongoing engagement in the life of the church.
  6. Leadership Support:
    • Provide administrative support to other pastoral staff and ministry leaders as needed.
    • Assist in preparing reports documents and other materials for church leadership meetings.
    • Attend staff meetings and contribute to discussions about church activities programs and goals.
  7. General Office Management:
    • Help ensure the church office runs smoothly including front desk managing supplies equipment and technology needs.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for visitors church members and vendors during office hours.
    • Maintain office organization and ensure that all files and materials are properly stored and accessible.



Qualifications:

  • Spiritual Maturity:A committed Christian with a deep personal relationship with Christ and a solid understanding of biblical teachings.
  • Experience:Previous experience in church administration ministry or a related field is preferred.
  • Communication Skills:Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with church members staff and the public.
  • Organizational Skills:Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently with attention to detail.
  • Confidentiality:Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Computer Skills:Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint/Canva) and church management software (e.g. Planning Center or similar systems).
  • Team Player:Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and support others in their roles.
  • Pastoral Sensitivity:Demonstrated empathy and pastoral sensitivity when interacting with individuals in need of care and support.

Work Environment:

  • This is a parttime mostly onsite position. Averaging 2025 Hours weekly. With the hope of expanding in the future.
  • The position may require some evening and weekend work especially during church services events and special activities.
  • The Pastoral Assistant will work closely with the senior pastor church staff and volunteers to meet the needs of the church.


Director of Music

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Worship Leadership:
    • Collaborate with the Senior Pastor to plan and implement Sunday worship services.
    • Lead worship during weekend services special events and other church activities.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive worship strategy that aligns with the churchs mission vision and theological values.
    • Ensure the worship experience is spiritually vibrant welcoming and engaging.
    • Select songs and coordinate worship sets that reflect the churchs style and theological convictions.
  2. Worship Team Development:
    • Recruit train and mentor musicians vocalists and other worship team members.
    • Coordinate rehearsals to ensure team members are wellprepared for services.
    • Foster a healthy and supportive environment within the worship team.
    • Provide individual and group training for team members on musical and spiritual growth.
  3. Worship Planning and Coordination:
    • Collaborate with the senior pastor and other ministry leaders to align worship services with sermon passages themes and church events.
    • Plan worship services including choosing songs preparing liturgies and coordinating with technical teams (e.g. AV)
    • Manage the worship ministry calendar to ensure the smooth of regular services and special events (e.g. holidays conferences retreats).
  4. Spiritual Leadership:
    • Provide spiritual guidance to the worship team encouraging a lifestyle of worship and personal devotion.
    • Lead by example in living out the values of worship discipleship commitment to the local church and service.
    • Foster an atmosphere of prayer reflection and worship within the team and congregation.
  5. Administrative Duties:
    • Manage the worship ministry budget ensuring resources are allocated appropriately.
    • Maintain and oversee the scheduling of volunteers and worship team members.
    • Handle the purchasing and upkeep of worshiprelated equipment and resources (e.g. instruments music sound equipment).
    • Prepare and submit reports as needed regarding ministry activities and progress.
  6. Professional Development:
    • Seek opportunities for training development and growth in musical spiritual and leadership areas.
    • Evaluate worship services and events to identify areas for improvement and innovation. Participate in the Service review with the Senior Pastor.
  7. Pastoral Care:
    • Be available to pray for and care for the church congregation especially those involved in the worship ministry. Be willing to provide constructive feedback and corrective feedback when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Spiritual Maturity:A committed Christian with a deep personal relationship with Christ commitment to the scriptures and a heart for worship and ministry.
  • Leadership Experience:Previous experience in worship ministry leadership with a track record of successfully leading worship services and teams.
  • Godly:A person of honesty and integrity
  • Humble:Willing to work alongside others to collaborate and receive feedback. Willing to admit fault when mistakes are made.
  • Musical Proficiency:Skilled in leading worship with an instrument (e.g. guitar piano) and/or vocals. Familiarity with a range of musical styles including contemporary traditional gospel and others.
  • Communication:Strong communication skills both in leading worship and in collaborating with other ministry leaders and the congregation.
  • Education:Formal or informal theological training or equivalent experience is preferred. A music or worship arts degree is a plus.
  • Technical Skills:Familiarity with sound systems audiovisual technology and the use of software tools for planning worship services (e.g. Planning Center Online).
