Joseph T. Lyons Investigative Fellowship
The Times Union in Albany N.Y. is seeking candidates for the Joseph T. Lyons Investigative Fellowship. This is a twoyear position.
What youll do: Learn how to dig deeper and report creatively to expose wrongdoing. The focus of this position is longterm projects that rely on deep reporting that may include data mining public records access and the cultivation of sources. The directive is to think outside the inbox seek the truth and minimize harm while exploring subjects that impact communities and the public at large. Your work may include navigating the halls of the Capitol and questioning politicians public officials and others who may or may not be less than honest. You will be mentored by an awardwinning investigations editor and when appropriate be able to collaborate with others across the newsroom and Hearst Newspaper properties.
The ideal candidate will be able to juggle investigative projects while also taking on a side beat focused on New Yorks cannabis industry.
Who you are: An unbiased early career journalist who believes traditional media makes a difference. Youre courageous persistent and empathetic and you dont scare off easily. You know how to navigate publicaccess laws and court processes at the local state and federal levels. You have at least a bachelors degree in journalism or a similar field and exemplify journalistic ethics.
