Job Description

Must possess a valid drivers license (must meet minimum criteria of Childrens Minnesota Fleet Safety Management policy).
* Must be able to successfully pass background checks of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Department of Human Services (DHS).
* Must be able to prepare verbal and written reports.
* Good verbal writing and computer skills required.
* Must complete and pass use of force training within 30 days of hire.
* Must complete and pass Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training within 90 days of hire.
* Must be able to wear respiratory protection (N95 respirator full face respirator and PAPR) be fit tested and able to pass respirator physical.

Education:
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Bachelors or Associates Degree in Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Business Psychology or Sociology preferred.

Experience:
* Prior experience responding and intervening in emergency situations such as crisis deescalation intervention detainment of suspects reporting and investigating incidents and enforcing organizational policy preferred.
* Prior Law Enforcement or security experience preferred.
* Emergency Operations Center experience preferred.
* Healthcare knowledge/experience preferred.

License/Certification Preferences:
* POST skills completed International Association of Hospital Safety and Security (Basic) First Responder Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or OSHA first responder certifications preferred.
* Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) Certified Protection Professional (CPP) Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI) Physical Security Professional (PSP) Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must.
* Ability to work independently and as a team.
* Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.
* Ability to retain knowledge information and directions on an ongoing basis and communicate effectively with others.
* Ability to comprehend numerous policies procedures concepts and to be able to make decisions using discretion and interpretive judgment based on general and specific policies.
* Ability to maintain accurate records.
* Must be customer service oriented.
* Knowledge of verbal and physical deescalation use of force continuum and arrest laws preferred.
* Ability to walk and climb stairs.
* Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
* Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
* Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.
* Skill in operating portable radio devices.
* Ability to detect irregularities such as security breaches facility and safety hazards and emergency situations.
* Effectively contacts and interacts with emergency responders such as police fire and/or ambulance personnel as required.
* Ability to restrain or subdue an individual.
* Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job.

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. When determining individual pay rates we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role the skills education training credentials and experience of the candidate internal equity and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary this position may be eligible for medical dental vision retirement and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night weekend or oncall work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.

Proudly serving as Minnesotas childrens hospital since 1924 Childrens Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota is the eighthlargest pediatric health care organization in the U.S. Each year Childrens provides care through nearly 13000 inpatient visits and more than 200000 emergency room and other outpatient visits. An independent notforprofit health care provider Childrens has 319 staffed hospital beds and services available in all major pediatric specialties: emergency care; newborn and pediatric intensive care; outpatient and inpatient surgery; diagnostic services including radiology and laboratory; and special programs in the areas of respiratory cardiology cancer premature birth adolescent development child abuse and epilepsy. Position Summary

The Security Officer position is responsible for the day to day activities of ensuring a safe and secure Childrens campus. The Security Officer will maintain a safe environment through patrol of the hospital grounds and outlying buildings. He/She will respond to all calls both emergency and nonemergency as they occur or in order of importance. The Security Officers core role is to promote a safe environment for patients visitors and hospital employees.
