Foster Parent Recruitment Retention and Support Specialist
Job Title: Foster Parent Recruitment Retention and Support Specialist
Reports To: Licensing and Intake Supervisor
Status: FullTime
FLSA Status: Exempt
Our Mission: To provide expert comprehensive services in southeastern Michigan that strengthen children adults and families impacted by abuse and neglect autism developmental disabilities and mental health challenges so they are successful in their communities.

Job Summary:
The Foster Care Recruitment Retention and Support Specialists duties include providing direct support and guidance to current and prospective foster parents through inperson contact telephone contact and/or email depending on the needs of the foster parents. They will also assist the department with recruitment and retention activities as well as trainings and special events.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Services foster families and potential foster families for both Judson Center and Child Safe Michigan.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries of potential foster families.
  • Assists prospective foster families with navigating through the licensing process.
  • Serves as liaison between the licensing worker or foster care worker and the current or prospective foster family when clarification is necessary.
  • Coordinates with other departments as necessary.
  • Plans recruitment and retention activities and events.
  • Participates in planning trainings for foster parents and staff.
  • Facilitates monthly foster family support groups and provides resources to foster families.
  • Documents all inquiry recruitment retention and training activity.
  • Participates in required trainings.
  • Facilitates foster parent orientations as needed.
  • Attends all scheduled team meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
  • Personal experience with the child welfare system as a current foster adoptive relative or kinship caregiver.
  • License to provide foster care must be in good standing.
  • Knowledge of child welfare policies and procedures.
  • Involvement in the local foster family community and/or foster family groups.
  • Ability to relate to current and prospective adoptive foster and kinship families.
  • Ability to relate to local DHHS and private agency personnel.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate families the agency services. Requires some evening and weekend hours.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word Outlook and Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to share personal experiences with foster care in a professional manner with the public.
  • Ability to provide culturally competent services that shows sensitivity to the service populations cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.

Education Certificates Licenses Registrations:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Michigan Drivers License appropriate insurance and use of own vehicle.

  • Works in an office environment and in the community as needed.
  • Position requires some evening and weekend hours.
  • Possible stressful environment working with families and court system.
