Description

SUMMARY:

The Dean of Academic Instruction provides leadership and supervision for the Academic Division Chairs Director of Associate Degree Nursing Director of Bands Director of eLearning and Director of Library Services. This position also serves as a key liaison between these areas and the Vice President of the Wesson Campus to whom the Dean reports directly.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains academic excellence by observing mentoring and collaborating with faculty.
  • Implements college and departmental policies.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Supervises the Academic Division Chairpersons Director of Associate Degree Nursing Director of Bands Director of eLearning and Director of Library Services and the Secretary to the Dean of Academic Instruction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervises the Academic Division Chairpersons Director of Bands Director of Library Services Director of eLearning Director of Associate Degree Nursing and the Secretary to the Dean of Academic Instruction.

2. Supervises all academic programs including summer evening and the dual enrollment program.

3. Develops class schedules (day night summer and online) for all academic classes at the Wesson Campus as well as for centers and sites within the counties of Copiah Lincoln Lawrence and Franklin.

4. Organizes calls and presides at meetings involving academic division chairs.

5. Coordinates prepares and oversees the budget for the academic divisions at the Wesson Campus.

6. Monitors and coordinates the retention efforts of academic students for the Wesson Campus.

7. Coordinates the textbook/eResource adoption process for the district.

8. Oversees student academic advisement and maintains and updates academic programs of study to align with the articulation agreement ensuring that articulation and transfer matters are current.

9. Assists with preregistration sessions on the Wesson campus.

10. Handles excessive absence reporting and appeals process.

11. Assists with the coordination of faculty professional development for the Wesson Campus.

12. Recommends academic personnel for employment or dismissal at the Wesson Campus to the Vice President of the Wesson Campus in accordance with college policies and procedures.

13. Collaborate with the Natchez Campus and Simpson County Center on district scheduling (eLearning) Spring Districtwide Faculty Meetings eLearning Policies and Procedures and curricular revisions and updates.

14. Assumes responsibility for maintaining academic accreditation standards or other standards affecting academic areas set by the College.

15. Assists the Vice President of the Wesson Campus in the preparation of the College Catalog and other college publications as needed.

16. Develops and implements annual assessment plans and compiles data/results for inclusion in the Colleges Annual Assessment Report for the Academic Division.

17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution preferably in education instructional leadership or a related academic discipline.
  • Five 5 years of fulltime experience in the field of education.
  • Three 3 years of supervisory experience in the field of education.
  • Knowledge and understanding of instruction curriculum and accreditation.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Office computer skills.
PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution preferably in education instructional leadership or a related academic discipline.
  • Supervisory experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience with curriculum development program assessment and accreditation processes.
ENVIRONMENT AND DEMANDS:
  • The work environment is an office setting with moderate noise.
  • While performing the duties of this Job the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
