Job Description:

Madison College is recruiting a pool of highly motivated and qualified candidates to teach part time courses for the Urban Forestry program. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis for the academic school year. Organizational Function and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for instruction in Urban Forestry at the college level. This includes developing a relevant and progressive curriculum designing and implementing effective learning strategies and environments delivering instruction of high quality assessing student learning advising students and participating in college service activities at the department division and college levels. This position reports to the Department Chair in the School of Human and Protective Services.


Essential Duties:

The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or allinclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

1. Responsible for facilitating student learning in the Urban Forestry program.

2. Develop and plan appropriate instructional strategies and alternative delivery strategies when appropriate including but not limited to hybrid facetoface and online course delivery.

3. Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments tests grades course content career concerns and other academic matters.

4. Evaluate student performance and provide regular feedback in courses taught by the instructor.

5. Use data to continually revise curriculum to improve student learning.

6. Actively work with other personnel in student recruitment retention and job placement. This includes developing strategies aimed at the recruitment and retention of minority students.

7. Develop and maintain curriculum in a variety of nontraditional formats to meet student delivery needs in collaboration with department/ division staff; participate in instructional and curriculum articulation activities with other programs other Schools of the College other colleges and universities and District K12 partners.

8. Function without direct supervision in a team environment with the ability to support a cohesive department atmosphere.

9. Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing record keeping advanced standing providing grades on a timely basis maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling etc.

10. Assist students in developing work experience assignments such as field experience workstudy assignments team projects etc.

11. Design and implement strategies to engage students in the learning process.

12. Integrate the use of technology into the teaching and learning process.

13. Attend School program and advisory committee meetings; participate in appropriate staff development activities such as diversity awareness technology training etc.

14. Plan and implement professional development strategies to continually improve teaching and professional experience.

15. Maintain competencies as an instructor as aligned with the Faculty Quality Assurance System.

16. Demonstrate a commitment to the colleges mission vision and values.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

1. Thorough knowledge of the principles and procedures related to Urban Forestry.

2. Ability to demonstrate the methods and procedures involved in agriculture.

3. Knowledge urban forestry equipment and supplies.

4. Knowledgeable in the use of computer hardware software applications/programs and supporting equipment.

5. Knowledge of industry related terminology practices and applicable regulations.

6. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

7. Demonstrates skill in both oral and written communication.

8. Ability to coordinate scheduling training assignments and tasks.

9. Ability to communicate technical information.

10. Experience with Windows/PC based computer programs

11. Ability to work daytime evening and weekend hours.

12. Demonstrated excellent organizational skills positive interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills in educating adult learners.


Qualifications:

1. Bachelors Degree in related and appropriate field OR Bachelors Degree equivalent based on verified work experience in the occupation combined with appropriate education and training totaling 7 years 14000 hours); Masters Degree preferred.

2. Two years 4000 hours) of recent related occupational experience outside the field of education.
One 1 year 2000 hours) of related work experience must be within the past five 5 years.
Two 2 years of fulltime equivalent teaching experience in a related area at an accredited college within the past five 5 years may be substituted for the one 1 year of related work experience within the past five 5 years.

3. Industry recognized certification/credential preferred.

4. Prior teaching experience preferred but not required.


Special Instructions to Applicants:

Madison College utilizes pool postings for all Parttime Instructor positions. This posting is a pool position to collect applications for potential parttime instruction positions. Parttime Instructors are hired on a per course basis each semester and teaching one semester does not guarantee assignment for the following semester. The teaching hours for a parttime instructor vary and can include day evening and weekend classes.
