Job Description

Overview:

Guru is looking for a Controller to oversee the accounting function across our rapidly growing team. Our Controller will directly manage the accounting team while improving existing procedures and creating new processes that scale with our company. Were looking for someone who has experience in a high growth startup establishing financial processes and who can jump from strategy to tactical without a hitch. Our ideal candidate is selfmotivated analytical and is comfortable presenting findings.

This job is not only about how well you lead the day to day accounting operations at Guru; its about how you lend your positivity and presence combined with your skill set to an energized environment and highly collaborative team. Strong sense of humor required sarcasm detection skills a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the CFO/COO oversee the daily accounting operations including general ledger revenue recognition accounts payable accounts receivable fixed assets payroll accounts reconciliation and operational cash management
  • Oversee accounting operations for both the U.S.based and international entity ensuring compliance with local regulations accurate financial reporting and seamless integration of financial processes across jurisdictions.
  • Lead monthly account reviews ensuring proper separation of duties in accordance with GAAP
  • Provide monthly financial variance analysis
  • Provide mentorship to the accounting staff by supporting and cross training employees
  • Lead yearend financial audit and other financial compliance reviews as necessary
  • Ensure consistent implementation of corporate accounting principles and procedures in full compliance with US GAAP
  • Ensure integrity of the Companys accounting systems including chart of account setup financial report development and maintenance between systems and general ledger
  • Assist CFO with monthly/quarterly investor reporting and regular board meetings
  • Administration of company systems internal controls and financial systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal state and local corporate income payroll sales and other applicable taxes and licenses.
  • Build strong internal external and crossfunctional relationships
  • Create review update and enhance Gurus accounting policies and procedures as well as monitor its consistent application

Qualifications

  • Public accounting experience at a Big 4 accounting firm STRONGLY preferred
  • Currently operating as a Controller Assistant Controller or Director/Senior Manager
  • Minimum 8 years experience in Accounting preferably with Software experience
  • CPA or BS/BA in Accounting/Finance
  • Experience managing accounting for both U.S. and international entities ensuring compliance with multiple regulatory requirements.
  • Expert knowledge of general ledger consolidations month end close process and GAAP.
  • Familiarity and eagerness to work with CFO on NonGAAP financial/investor reporting.
  • Strong analytical communication (verbal and written) and project management skills.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Zuora or NetSuite experience is preferred
  • Ability to manage deployment of new software/accounting systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with crossfunctional stakeholders notably Sales
  • Proactive & independent; solution oriented creative & endlessly curious; high attention to detail & extremely diligent

  • Proven experience transitioning and implementing an ERP upgrade within an organization
  • Strong FP&A experience including financial planning budgeting forecasting and variance analysis.
