Position Summary: The Doula provides culturally competent and patientcentered doula care (social physical and emotional support before and during labor) and ensures that doula patients receive culturally competent patientcentered education in preparation for birth and care of newborn. This is a fulltime position located at our Family Health & Birth Center in NE DC and reporting directly to our Lead Doula.


The salary for this position ranges between $60000 $65000 annually and the offer amount is determined by the candidates education qualifications and experience. Indeed provides their own estimated salary calculator and is not affiliated with COHs range.


Highlighted Duties and Responsibilities:


Patient Care:

  • In conjunction with the Perinatal Care Coordinators and Midwives identifies patients who are interested in doula support/services and ensures that data is accurately updated in eClinical Works (eCW) and other tracking systems as well as communicated to Midwives and COH staff.
  • Closely monitors a caseload of 1020 patients at various stages of pregnancy and complexity as identified via their medical and social needs using the Perinatal Care Coordination Tiered systems for assessing risk factors.
  • Employs creative outreach strategies to maintain connection to doula services for 100 of patients on caseload.
  • Orients all referred patients to doula services ensuring the completion of doula services intake materials and care plans within 10 business days of referral and within 5 business days for urgent referrals.
  • Orients all referred perinatal patients of COH intrapartum supportprovides education on birthing options and locations policies that impact doula supports warning signs and Midwife on Call line.
  • Offers three doula prenatal visits labor support postpartum visit(s) and supporting accompaniment to prenatal medical appointments to all referred patients who have completed their intake. Provides 100 of agreed upon services in care plan for all assigned eligible patients.
  • Provides ongoing health childbirth and newborn education to increase preparedness and confidence of birthing person and support system and increase safety during perinatal period and newborn stages.
  • Provides ongoing general resource and programming connection to patients as needed. Reports identified barriers to care and social wellbeing to the care team. Escalates patients of concern to supervisor with appropriate urgency.
  • Communicates and coordinates care with care team to inform delivery of tailored doula care services.
  • Attends Centering Pregnancy sessions to meet patients provide information about doula support and encourage utilization of services.
  • Participates in case conferencing and warm handoffs with other COH care team members to ensure adequate care and support for perinatal patients: this includes participating in shift swaps during birth.
  • Participates in meetings including morning staff huddle in clinic (as needed) as well as Maternal Child Health Department.
  • Maintains accurate caseload and completes discharges within 10 days of end of services.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provides inperson and virtual doula support to patients following approved guidelines.
  • Cooperates with clinical and office policies and protocols.
  • Maintains the required productivity numbers expected by COH as set by the Perinatal Leadership.
  • Provides shadowing opportunities to staff in their orientation periods as agreed upon with supervisor.
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records and keeping patient information confidential.
  • Maintains safe secure and healthy work environment by following standards procedures and legal guidelines.

Community and Other Responsibilities:

  • Provides updates on client successes or program outcomes for fundraising and communication purposes as needed.
  • Attends Health Services staff meetings and all other staff meetings.
  • Represents COH at Maternal and Child Health related community functions as requested.
  • Provides safety and resource checkins for perinatal patients as requested.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Birth Doula by DONA CAPPA ALACE or other Medicaid approved doula training program required.
  • Minimum High School diploma required; Associates or Bachelors degree in social work nursing public health or similar discipline preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing labor support and attending births in the role of a Doula at hospital and/or birthing center births.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of prenatal education childbirth education breastfeeding labor comfort measures newborn care and managing the postpartum period.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence in communicating with people from various backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of maternal health disparities and the impact of doula services
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with computers and spreadsheets.
  • Willingness to be oncall to provide labor support to patients required. Must be available weekends and nights.
  • Ability to travel to various COH locations and patients homes as needed which requires the maintenance of safety sensitive status and reliable transportation.
  • Current adult and child CPR certification (ACLS or BLS for the Healthcare Provider or equivalent) required.

  • In relation to remote work versus onsite expectations this position is classified as the following: Hybrid: Remote work and onsite work requirements are generally split roughly 50/50. Please note that remote work designations are subject to change or fluctuate at any point in time and the supervisor may require in person learning for a specific amount of time after hire.
