JOB SUMMARY

A Maintenance Technician is responsible for keeping a facility operating and repairing any problems when they are discovered before they have a chance to worsen. A Maintenance Technician will usually be required to perform a wide range of repair tasks around a facility.

Pay: $21.64 an hour approx. $45000 annually.

FLSA: Nonexempt. Eligible for overtime.

Schedule: 8am4pm Tuesday Saturday (Sunday & Monday off).

Location: Eastchester neighborhood Bronx NY

JOBRELATED DUTIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

These duties are essential and specific to the successful implementation of this position.

  • Performing routine maintenance around the building such as fixing structural damage for example window door or wall repair
  • Repairing broken or leaking plumbing to avoid water damage and restore full use of water fixtures.
  • Working on damaged electrical wiring when a shortage or severed wire occurs
  • Maintaining the building HVAC equipment to keep climate control in the facility functioning properly.
  • Painting the building when old paint has become faded or chipped.
  • Fixing potential safety hazards to avoid injuries.
  • Determine workplace hazards and exposures that could harm employees and by extension the environment and report it immediately.
  • Ensure staff are practicing safe working techniques learned in trainings.
  • Maintain Compliance with CHIs Health and Safety Program.
  • Promote Safety initiatives and inspect all equipment prior to use.
  • Emergency Preparedness attend yearly training on active shooter drills deescalation training and ensure that all emergency supplies on site are present and accounted for.

Qualifications

ENTRY LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED. Three years of experience in maintenance or a related field may be substituted for high School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Certificates: Required to obtain an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Online Training for Bloodborne Pathogens and Personal Protective Equipment Course within the first 30 days of employment and maintain throughout employment.
    • Required to obtain a Certificate of Fitness for Fire Guard in Homeless shelters (F02 within the first 30 days of employment and maintain throughout employment.
    • Required to obtain a Food Handlers Certificate from a credentialed company through the Department of Health.
  • Communication: Proficiency in English required. Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
  • Reasoning Ability: make judgment calls perform proper notifications and make appropriate decisions.
  • Physical Performance: Ability to lift carry and move heavy objects (up to 50lbs) tour entire property walk distances and climb stairs 24 flights).
  • Other Skills: Ability to work independently or as part of a team work well under pressure meet deadlines multitask be flexible and maintain a high level of attention to details.
