About Newlocal:
Newlocal is building a digital home for African professionals who have recently relocated to Canada. We curate resources share real stories and deliver a weekly newsletter designed to help our community navigate everything from jobs and housing to culture shock and career growth.
Were in the early days and were looking for a missionaligned Content and amp; Community Manager to join us as a cofounder. If youre passionate about storytelling communitybuilding and creating a sense of belonging for immigrants this could be the perfect fit.

What Youll Do:
Youll help shape the voice and growth of Newlocal from the ground up. This is a handson role where youll wear multiple hats but your core responsibilities will include:
Content:
  • Plan write and edit weekly newsletter content thats relevant inspiring and practical for new African immigrants in Canada.
  • Create and repurpose content for social media and the website (guides interviews checklists etc..
  • Source and share stories from community members spotlighting their experiences and advice.
  • Build and maintain an editorial calendar based on seasonal needs trends and community feedback.
Community:
  • Engage with our existing audience and grow our community across platforms (email social media possibly WhatsApp/Slack groups).
  • Respond to emails comments and DMs making every community member feel seen and heard.
  • Plan and host virtual community events (e.g. Q and amp;As webinars or informal hangouts).
  • Explore and lead collaborations with other diaspora networks organizations or influencers.
Growth:
  • Grow our subscriber base through organic strategies (referrals partnerships collaborations and storytelling).
  • Track and measure engagement to continuously improve content and community efforts.
  • Work closely with the founding team to shape the vision voice and impact of the brand.

Who You Are:
  • A strong writer and communicator who understands how to speak to the African immigrant experience with empathy and authenticity.
  • Someone who has either lived this experience or is deeply connected to it.
  • Communityoriented and peoplefocused youre excited to build relationships not just audiences.
  • Proactive organized and selfdirected able to take ownership without constant supervision.
  • Comfortable with the ambiguity of an earlystage startup and excited about helping build something from scratch.

Nice to Have:
  • Experience managing newsletters (Substack Mailchimp Beehiiv etc..
  • Familiarity with content marketing community tools or event coordination.
  • A network or visibility in African Canadian communities.
