Job Description

56 months contract with a Local Authority

Job Purpose


  • To carry out homelessness assessment in accordance with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 To devise robust personalised housing plans
  • To make decisions and issue S184 letters and also make s198 referrals To carry out prevention and relief duties and issue notification letters.
  • To provide an effective professional service on behalf of the Council including offering a full range of advice on housing options in the private and public sector and ensure comprehensive homelessness prevention service.


Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • To provide an effective professional homelessness service on behalf of the Council including assessment and investigation of homeless approached and applications in line with the Council s statutory duties under the Housing Act 1996 Part 7 and relevant case laws and local policies.
  • To develop update and review Personalised Housing Plan for customers on behalf of the council in light of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
  • This Plan will ensure that homelessness is prevented or relieved through active engagement with council and private sector services.
  • To drive the Council s reduction of temporary accommodation expenditure by ensuring that all other avenues are explored and clients are diverted away from its use.
  • To lead on the collation of the data information for the Department for Communities and Local Government thereby assisting the government in its work to capture the true picture of homelessness and its impact on society.
  • This position is fundamental to the provision of services to vulnerable customers who may approach the Council for assistance through the Children s Act the Care Act and all relevant housing legislation including the Homeless Reduction Act 2017.

Essential Experience Required

  • Experience in keeping their current home or in accessing a new home in the public or private housing sector is essential.
  • Experience with the Personalised Housing Plan following a detailed assessment with all clients following the first interview and to ensure this Personalised Housing Plan is kept up to date is essential.

Essential Qualification Required

  • Relevant work experience numerate and literate is essential.

Additional information to note

  • Working hours: 36 hours per week.
