Nurse Practitioner Correctional Facility Lima OH

Requirements of the Nurse Practitioner:
OH NP License and CPR/BLS

Drug Enforcement Administration certification.

Responsibilities of the Nurse Practitioner :

  • Monitors progress of and intervenes in the course of chronic illnesses using ODRC policies and protocols for guidance
  • Inoculates or vaccinates against communicable diseases & prescribes medications or administers treatment of acute and chronically ill patients & performs minor surgery as training & competency allows
  • Performs routine physical exams of patients to determine control or status of chronic conditions & diagnoses new conditions
  • Evaluates patients for the necessity of specialty referral consultations inside or outside the institution & reviews said consult reports for the recommendations approving or disapproving accordingly
  • Orders & reviews the results of laboratory xray & other diagnostic testing as appropriate
  • With the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) facilitates the completion of medical reclassification & requests for nonformulary medications as necessary
  • Performs routine & emergency medical care of patients as scheduled
  • Examines diagnoses & treats patients within scope of practice as identified by the State of Ohio Nursing Board as applicable
  • Conducts rounds on infirmary patients as deemed appropriate by the CMO
  • Writes up medical information gathered during patient interviews according to ODRC Office of Correctional Healthcare guidelines policies protocols & related American Correctional Association standards currently in practice documenting all assessments & diagnostic impressions as well as any other treatment plans & followup parameters
  • Cooperates with CMO medical quality oversight & accept suggestions redirection and guidance
