Job Description

Position Summary

The purpose of the summer camp educators will be to assist in developing and implementing summer camp programs conducted by Audubon Southwest and the Randall Davey Audubon Center. The educators will be supervised directly by the Summer Camp Director at the Randall Davey Audubon Center in Santa Fe. We will hire a total of 5 educators. There will also be the opportunity to work with community groups and other public programs on occasion. These positions are classified as fulltime and seasonal and paid at a rate of $1618 per hour depending on experience. Typical hours will be 8:00 am4:00 pm or 9:00 am5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Training will run May 27 2025 through Saturday May 31st with camp programs running from June 2nd to August 1st. The projected end date is August 8 2025. This is an inperson position and does not have flexible hours.

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Lead groups of children outdoors and in classrooms in classrooms through innovative environmental education activities and curricula at the Randall Davey Audubon Center and Sanctuary (RDAC).

  • Assist in developing and implementing innovative environmental education activities and curricula for the summer day camps for children ages 512;

  • Ensure daily safety and wellbeing for summer campers;

  • Mentor teen youth volunteers;

  • Interact professionally and positively with students teachers parents and visitors;

  • Maintain and enhance existing activities/curricula including the upkeep of program materials and resources;

  • Serve as a role model naturalist and environmental steward to students and community;

  • Interact with the public to provide information about Audubon and Audubons mission answer specific questions for visitors associated with the Randall Davey Audubon Center and be a positive ambassador of Audubon.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of two years of professional experience working in the field of environmental education natural history and science education;

  • Experience working with groups of elementarylevel students (PreK5th grade);

  • Creative ability to design write and evaluate environmental education curricula lesson plans and activities;

  • Skills teaching in formal and informal settings to a variety of audiences;

  • Excellent public speaking and group management skills;

  • Ability to work and collaborate with people of varying backgrounds;

  • Hardworking flexible and selfmotivated.

  • Ability to work individually and in a team setting;

  • Professional and friendly manner;

  • Background in New Mexicos natural history desirable;

  • CPR & First Aid certified preferred;

  • Up to date on Covid19 vaccinations;

  • Must be 18 years or older;

  • Must be able to stand on your feet for long periods of time lift loads up to 25 lbs and traverse uneven terrain for over 2 miles. Must be able to lead groups in an outdoor setting including traversing the trails and uneven terrain of the Nature Center and surrounding properties and preserves in variable weather conditions.
