Job Description

The Carman is responsible for the maintenance and repairs of rail cars and their components as well as the inspection of trains upon their arrival and / or departure.

Work location: Based out of North Bay
Railway: Ottawa Valley Railway Inc
Type: Permanent position
Salary: According to the Ottawa Valley Railway salary grid

Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will perform the following functions:

  • Inspects rail cars and its components in accordance with the railway and company standards.
  • Perform periodical on demand or preventative inspections on railcar structures frame security components and others.
  • Installs and repairs railway material such as compressors pneumatic systems and others.
  • Use of manual electric and welding tools.
  • Prepare inspection reports for maintenance and repair using approved spreadsheet which are in conformity to company standards.
  • Assist with locomotive servicing and repair.
  • Performs all other related tasks.

General Requirements:

  • Must possess a high school diploma.
  • Experience or a diploma in electro mechanics is an asset.
  • A valid CWB welder card is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations: working hours service calls overtime tasks to accomplish outside of the work location etc.
  • Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
