You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailSeton Hall University School of Law has an immediate opening for a fulltime experienced immigration attorney to serve as Senior PractitionerinResidence in its Center for Social Justice Immigrants Rights/International Human Rights Clinic. This is a yearround nonteaching position and is entirely grantfunded.
The Center for Social Justice is home to the Law Schools vibrant clinical program including civil litigation; equal justice; family law; health justice; immigrants rights/international human rights; and impact litigation. Furthermore the Immigrants Rights/International Human Rights Clinic is one of four partners in an exciting and innovative project funded by the state of New Jersey to provide legal representation to detained and nondetained immigrants in removal proceedings. Seton Hall Laws Immigration Detention Project presently encompasses a Managing Attorney one fulltime PractitionerinResidence two Immigration Detention Fellows clinical and extern law students and two fulltime paralegals. The ultimate goal of the Project is to provide universal representation to immigrants detained in New Jersey.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior PractitionerinResidence working with the detention team will represent both detained and nondetained immigrants before the Immigration Court Board of Immigration Appeals. The Senior PractitionerinResidence will also help develop a federal court litigation practice particularly focused on habeas corpus claims to challenge ongoing unlawful detention and appeals before Circuit Courts.
Required Qualifications:
A J.D. or LL.M. and membership in a bar of any state (NJ bar membership is a plus though not required)
At least 56 years experience in immigration law
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in habeas litigation in federal court (preferable)
Commitment to ensuring that detained and nondetained immigrants have access to counsel and due process
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong preference for bilingual English/Spanish applicants
Licenses and Certificates:
A J.D. or LL.M. and membership in a bar of any state (NJ bar membership is a plus though not required)
