Job Description

Position:English Learner (EL) Teacher Location:Woodland ElementarySchedule:School Year Salary:Per Teachers ContractTo Start:August 25 2025 (plus two mentoring days prior to start date TBD)Qualifications:Massachusetts certification as a teacher in ESL (PreK 6 requiredSheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement requiredMA Department of Education Teacher License Elementary Education 16 requiredBilingual Education Endorsement and/or Bilingual Proficiency (Spanish and/or Portuguese) preferredACCESS for ELLs 2.0 Test Administrator: Online certificationWorking knowledge of the Massachusetts CoreContent Frameworks and WIDA 2020 ELD StandardsKnowledge of second language learning and sheltering content Massachusetts standardsbased ESL Model Curriculum Units (MCUs) standard and alternative methods of assessment and datadriven instructionDeep understanding of the advancement of cultural proficiency equity diversity and inclusion in the classroom and school environmentsDemonstrated ability to coteach in the SEI and ELD classroom: coursework and/or experience in coplanning coteaching coassessment and coreflection with a Sheltered Content Immersion (SCI) coreacademic teacherExtensive coursework completion in teaching reading/literacy skills to students at the elementary school levelExperience working with Students with Limited and/or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE) and English learnerstudents with disabilities (ELSWD)Training and experience in MultiTiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Excellent computer/technology skills with the ability to utilize various computer software and app programs (student database: ASPEN X2 Google Suite Ellevation TalkingPoints iReady Clever etc.)Committed to the vision of high expectations for achievement equal access to high levels of instruction the achievement of academic and linguistic proficiency for all students and the closing of the achievement gapA selfreflective active learner capable of interactive dialogue with all members of the school communityA positive solutionsoriented problem solver willing to become involved in the academic and social aspects of school lifeDuties & Responsibilities:Teach English Language Development (ELD) to English learners (ELs) in a cotaught ESL classroom and/or coteach general education frameworks in Sheltered Content Immersion (SCI) classrooms Coplan coteach coassess and coreflect with assigned Sheltered Content Immersion (SCI) coreacademic teacher(s)Collaborate with classroom teachers in integrating the WIDA 2020 Standards into content area instruction and in identifying ways in which students at all levels of English development can be supported in the content areasTeach explicit ELD to students at varying English Proficiency levels aligned to WIDA Can Dos/Proficiency Level Descriptors Develop and refine indistrict ESL contentintegrated curriculum maps aligned to MA Curriculum Frameworks and the WIDA 2020 Standards.Provide a safe and respectful learning environment that fosters social and emotional competencies and empowers multilingual students to be skilled and competent communicators who actively participate as leaders in their school communityKnowledge of screening and assessment of all students with a second language spoken at home including ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 indistrict progress monitoring assessments and being involved in MCAS administration of ELsAdminister and grade EL department common progress monitoring assessments and adjust practice to ensure student growth in the four domains of language: listening speaking reading and writingPartner with SEI teachers to implement explicit ELD and SEI instruction aligned to the goals assigned to students English learner Success Plans (ELSPs).Develop implement and consistently monitor language goals and objectives for students following the English learner frameworks and keep parents informed about student language development progressCommunicate regularly with EL families via email facetoface meetings and communication apps (i.e. TalkingPoints etc) and participate in schoolbased parent engagement eventsAttend ESL department meetings and team collaboration timeCollaborate with the EL Coordinator/building administration on budget and purchase orders for the curriculum and instruction of ELsWork with the IEP Team and Special Education Team Chair to discuss ELSWDs culturally and linguistically relevant IEP development accommodations and modifications aligned with ELs language proficiency levels and disability.As a member of the EL department complete the required annual tasks aligned to the EL Department Sustainable Improvement Plan (ELDSIP)Provide an inclusive positive structured learning environmentAbility to actively collaborate with other members of the department and team
