This position is not anticipated to work 630 hours for the remainder of the school year and therefore not eligible for benefits. If a current employee transfers into this position and the total work hours will be more than 630 hours the employee will be eligible for benefits.
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of the Health Room Paraprofessional is to provide support to students in the school health room under the guidance and supervision of a certificated nurse and the building administrator. This role may also provide student supervision support as part of the daily schedule.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides support to assist with the effcient operation of all health room/clinic responsibilities as directed and supervised by a certifcated school nurse.
- Performs routine first aid procedures.
- Assists in screening ill or injured children according to established procedures.
- Administers medications and provides medical treatments according to district procedures and provider orders and under the delegation of a school nurse.
- Documents support and services provided including injury forms and other reports.
- Assists with the preparation and arrangements for health testing screenings performed with the school nurse (vision hearing). Enters results into the computer system under direction of the school nurse.
- Helps track student immunizations and may be trained to enter immunizations in the state database.
- Refer suspected child abuse or serious illness/injuries to school nurse/counselor/ administrator immediately maintaining established MISD procedures and condentiality.
- Maintain Parent Designated Adult (PDA) training if applicable.
- May enter records regarding students as needed for the position
- May provide supervision of students in nonclassroom settings including lunch room playground or crosswalks
- May provide supervision for parking lots as required
- Collaborates with other staff members as required for the assignment
- Exposed to interruptions to concentration.

- Required to remain flexible to changes in work assignment to remain flexible under pressure and to respond appropriately to various situations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
REQUIRED:
- High school graduation or equivalent
- CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain prior to
PREFERRED:
- Experience working in a school setting
- Associates degree or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):
- Understands basics of child development

- Possesses basic skills with computers including keyboarding and the ability to enter data and information

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position may require: stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting finger dexterity grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time.
