Job Description

Job Summary

Using tools of consulting mentoring coaching and interprofessional collaboration the nurse educator facilitates the professional role development and growth of nurses and other healthcare personnel along the continuum from novice to expert.

Functions in the roles of change agent mentor facilitator of learning leader champion of scientific inquiry (application of research evidence based practice and improvement science) and partner for clinical practice transitions.

Nurse educators are REQUIRED to obtain their nursing administration or professional/specialty certification within 12 months of assuming the role or within 12 months of achieving eligibility to sit for the exam if not eligible upon hire in to the role.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees orientation as part of the onboarding process to ensure that new hire/transfer employees have the knowledge and skill to safely practice independently in their role. The educator develops coordinates manages facilitates conducts and evaluates orientation programs for nursing and other healthcare personnel.
  • Develops coordinates manages facilitates conducts and evaluates competency programs. The educator collaborates with operational leaders to address deficits in employees knowledge and skills.
  • Designs and develops educational opportunities to achieve specific outcomes related to identified deficits or opportunities for improvement in knowledge skills and practice. This may include obtaining continuing education approval.
  • Fosters interprofessional learning and enables effective collaboration to improve practice outcomes for the nurse and other health care personnel. Functions as a mentor coach and resource in the development of nursing and other clinical support roles as the employee transitions throughout their career life cycle.
  • Applies research evidenced based practice and quality improvement principles in education professional role development orientation and competency.

Qualifications

  • Required Bachelors Degree Nursing
  • Preferred Masters Degree Nursing Education or Adult Education
  • 5 years of relevant experience clinical experience related to area of focus Required
  • Education and program development Preferred
  • LICRegistered Nurse (RN) STATEMI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
  • CRTBasic Life Support (BLS) AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or
  • CRTBasic Life Support (BLS) ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required
