Job Description

SUMMARY

The Clinic Instructor is responsible for working with the Clinic Director to provide quality clinical services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Clinical responsibilities

  • Assist students with providing diagnostic and therapeutic services for the clinic.
  • Help to maintain a pool of clients for the oncampus clinic.
  • Conduct evaluations and develop interventions for clinic clients.
  • Document client and student progress.
  • Provide family counseling.
  • Mentor students for the practicum experiences.
  • Maintain Continuing Education on topics relevant to clinic instruction and clinical services provided.

Administrative responsibilities

  • Write daily progress reports and semester evaluations for students.
  • Meet at least weekly with students to discuss progress.
  • Liaison and coordinate services with outside agencies.
  • Ensure clinical practices meet all HIPPA and OSHA standards.
  • Participate in collection of program assessment data.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Position supervises delivery of speech pathology services primarily on campus and potentially via telehealth as needed.

Time requirement: Monday/Wednesday mornings Tuesday/Thursday afternoons approximately 16 hours per week.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

This position requires a Masters degree or equivalent in speechlanguage pathology; three to five years experience of clinical experience in speechlanguage pathology; thorough academic and clinical knowledge of speechlanguage pathology required as well as strong analytical communication interpersonal and mediation skills necessary. Proficiency in Spanish is desired but not required.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have a personal commitment to the Christian faith.

Must support the mission of Calvin University as an institution of Reformed Christian higher education.

Must have sensitive Christian concern for others and ability to listen and relate to students faculty and staff.

High integrity is needed.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Ability to interact with all members of the university community.

Familiarity with telehealth service delivery virtual platform technology and electronic medical records.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS

ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in speechlanguage pathology (CCCSLP). Michigan licensure is required. Additional state licensure is appreciated. The clinic instructor also will be required to maintain at least 10 continuing education units in clinical supervision and related areas per year.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

The position requires the ability to draft and edit correspondence; train or instruct employee/students in the same department; or tasks requiring significant communication skills.

Handles confidential information.

COMPLEXITY

The position requires the ability to carry out detailed written/oral/ diagram form instructions. Deals with standardized situations involving several variables.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The position has the authority if approved to take action or make recommendations that will affect procedures processes and practices involving employees within the same department.

DECISION MAKING/JUDGMENT

This position regularly requires independent judgment in setting priorities and organizing work to accomplish results. Some of the responsibilities of this position are performed in accordance with existing procedures and instructions.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The position requires regular participation with employees or customers deals with items of a routine nature with occasional supervision. Participants use information and expertise to influence outcomes and solve problems.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work in this position requires exposure to potentially hazardous or unpleasant conditions and/or physical effort of some duration. 1. Proofreading and checking documents for accuracy.

2. Using a keyboard to enter retrieve or transform data.

3. Closely examining clinical clients and management of therapeutic materials.

This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
