Job Description Summary

The Surgery division is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join the team that designs the top surgical imaging solutions in the world. Our passionate people are creating the products solutions and services our customers need to deliver the best patient care possible.

This Electrical Engineer will be a part of the Electrical Engineering team that designs and maintains the nextgeneration mobile Carms. The Carm is a complex system that consists of many electrical engineering disciplines including Power Engineering Control Systems Design for Medical Device Safety Design for EMC/EMI Compliance PCB Design Communications Wireless Devices and Embedded Systems.

The Surgery division of GE Healthcare in Salt Lake City designs and builds the worldclass OEC Elite Carm and the OEC 3D Carm. These are mobile systems that provide Xray images for many surgical needs including orthopedics gastrointestinal endoscopic urologic neurologic critical care emergency and vascular procedures. This is all done with worldrenowned image quality and minimal dose both of which allow for minimally invasive procedures that lead to better patient outcomes and shorter recovery times. Our Carms affect the lives of 80000 individuals every day in critical moments of care.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Working under the guidance of Principal Engineers Architects and Lead System Designers the Electrical Engineer will help to create nextgeneration system architecture and support design changes on the current production systems.
  • Capable of owning and driving design in electrical disciplines like PCB design cable design communication methods wireless devices displays etc. The scope of design ranges from low voltage mixed signal circuits to line voltage AC circuits to high voltage for xray generation.
  • The engineer will be expected to drive technical design from concept to . This includes prototyping risk retirement design reviews reliability testing creating requirements and verification plans design documentation manufacturing implementation and field support. The engineer should be comfortable working with crossfunctional teams have technical communication skills and a strong commitment to product safety quality and reliability.
  • Learn and participate in design of the power system capable of running an Xray Generator. Design components up to 300V in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Learn the physics behind Xray generation and the basics of high voltage generators. Contribute to design changes and support of components associated with the high voltage generator.
  • Understand the tradeoffs that different design decisions can have on electromagnetic immunity and compliance. Become familiar with the IEC safety standards for medical Xray devices as they pertain to electrical components Use these skills when designing and selecting components to achieve a compliant system.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Proficiency with lab equipment: Oscilloscopes Multimeters
  • Ability to complete design objectives within program critical timelines
  • Selfstarter results oriented and able to multitask
  • Excellent teamwork coordination and communication skills
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. (We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas now or in the future for this job opening.

Desired Characteristics

  • Advanced degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • 3 years electrical hardware work experience
  • Demonstrated experience in any of the following: Analog digital or mixed circuit design power supply design
  • Experience with PCB design schematic capture and parts list creation including circuit design and simulation tool experience (i.e. Cadence Matlab spice)
  • Ability to oversee activities for board layout and PCB manufacturing
  • Experience bench testing and troubleshooting PCB prototypes
  • Experience integrating hardware components within a complex system
  • EMC compatible design/solution experience
  • Basic knowledge of SPI I2C CAN Ethernet and other serial communication protocols
  • Experience working within a quality management system that ensures rigor and excellence with all design activities
