Driven by our desire to help students thrive in their academic and personal lives the Saanich School District provides quality educational programs and a safe and nurturing learning environment for the over 7000 culturally diverse students within its 18 schools. Serving the Saanich Peninsula located just north of Victoria BC the district has one of the highest graduation rates in the province and a student body that consistently scores well on annual assessment tests thanks in large part to the dedication and efforts of our 900 teaching and support staff.

This position supports students on campus. Online Learning qualifications required. Exact schedule is flexible and to be determined in discussion with the successful candidate. The position will focus on students in grades K9 but some support of Secondaryaged students might also be required.
Required Qualifications
- Academic preparation certification and training:
- A valid BC Teaching Certificate
- Bachelor of Education (Elementary/Middle)
- Masters Degree in Counselling orPsychology or a related discipline with a focus on counselling
- Masters Degree in Distance Learning or equivalent education training and demonstrated successful experience in distributed learning
- Experience:
- Successful completion of Teaching and Learning Online course or demonstrated expertise and experience teaching in an online learning environment
- Two years of successful classroom experience at the secondary level delivered in both a classroom and online environment
- Two years of successful school counselling experience at the secondary level that includes the provision of counselling consultation coordination and education services that promote the intellectual human social and career development of students
- Current practical experience dealing with adolescents exhibiting behavioural and/or emotional problems
- Demonstrated ability in online curriculum development and delivery in accordance with the Standards for K12 distributed learning in B.C.
- Past Teaching Performance:
- Demonstrated successful experience in the classroom and in a schoolcounselling position
Ideally the successful applicant will possess:
- Ability to support classroom teachers in understanding and planning for the social emotional and behavioural needs of students in their classes
- Demonstrated comfort/skill in communicating in person by telephone or online with students and parents
- Must be fully conversant with current research related to the integration of technology and appropriate pedagogy for distributed learning teaching and learning
- Experienced in the use of educational technologies for teaching and learning especially course management software asynchronous and synchronous distance delivery software
- Strong communication skillswith students parents and colleaguesand ability in group process techniques
- Ability and willingness to act as a resource person for teaching staff
- Demonstrated interest and a strong commitment to the emotional and social development of adolescents
- Demonstrated aptitude for counselling and/or professional counselling experience
- Experience working in a proactive comprehensive counselling model
- Experience working in a comprehensive model supporting the academic social and emotional needs of International students
- Strong understanding of current Graduation Programs prescribed by the Ministry of Education
- Strong understanding of transitioning middle years learners to secondary and secondary learners to postsecondary
- Threat Assessment Level 2 training
- Knowledge and understanding of the role a counsellor plays on a Critical Response Team
- Familiarity with community resources and referral processes
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative team
- Commitment to support the full range of student abilities
- Commitment to continuing professional development
- Successful experience with adapting and modifying materials for a diversity of learners
- Working knowledge of computing technology to support learning
- A commitment to the Principles of Inclusive Schools and Principles of Learning
Applicants who have not demonstrated education or experience in online teaching will be responsible for completing a 100hour preparatory online course (teaching and learning online and building DL environments) that is recommended by SIDES
