Job Description
The Lawrenceville School announces an opening for a French and Spanish teacher. We are seeking an enthusiastic collegial individual who wants to work with other highly motivated faculty and students in a collaborative diverse and inclusive boarding school environment. The Lawrenceville Language Department supports students as they become citizens of the global community: the curriculum is designed to develop capacities to understand other cultures and peoples through the beauty and power of their languages.
Typical responsibilities include the following:
- Teach four sections/two to three preps per trimester.
- Two seasons of coaching or equivalent cocurricular commitment including at least one season of interscholastic coaching (or the equivalent).
- Advise five to eight students and do one evening a week of House duty providing supervision in a student residence from 711:30 pm. Although not necessarily starting their first year faculty who reside in Schoolprovided housing are expected to spend eight years living in one of the residential houses at some point in their career.
- Chaperone a weekend activity (dance coffee house etc. one or two times a term.
- Bachelors degree in either French Spanish or Romance Languages with the ability to teach both French and Spanish.
- Ability to teach all levels introductory to honors (collegelevel).
- Demonstrated success planning and facilitating collaborative studentcentered classes.
- At least two years of high school teaching experience.
- A passion for teaching the French and Spanish language.
- A passion for working with high schoolage students.
- Strong interpersonal organizational and communication (oral and written) abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently as needed and appropriate.
- Demonstrated success with the effective incorporation of technology in the learning process including language labs.
- Proficient computer skills including familiarity with Google suite and Microsoft Office suite.
