PROGRAM: Family Development Response Program
LOCATION: Kamloops BC
STATUS: Temporary FullTime
TERM: Until August 2026 or the return of the incumbent
HOURS of WORK: 37.5 hours per week
SCHEDULE: Monday Friday flexible schedule mainly within the standard office hours of 8:30 am4:30 pm with some work performed on the evenings or weekends to meet program and client needs.
REPORTS TO: Family Services Program Coordinator
COMPENSATION: $29.17 $33.49 per hour (Grid 12 as per collective agreement)

ABOUT THE JOB:
The Family Support Worker (FSW) provides outreach services in Kamloops and nearby areas supporting highrisk families through crisis intervention violence prevention life skills training and parenting support. This role involves home visits coaching and group facilitation to develop safety plans teach conflict resolution and educate on child development. The FSW assesses needs sets goals monitors progress advocates for families makes referrals and responds to crises. Collaboration with MCFD social workers and community professionals is essential with frequent travel required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support highrisk families experiencing violence typically over a 3month service period with a 6week followup.
- Provide crisis management immediate outreach and followup referrals.
- Assist in safety planning and teach parenting communication conflict resolution and life skills.
- Educate families on child development and facilitate/cofacilitate educational groups.
- Share materials on child safety and health standards.
- Assess family strengths needs and interactions to set goals and intervention strategies with MCFD and other supports.
- Monitor progress advocate for client rights and ensure ongoing support.
- Respond to crises assess risks and assist in stabilization.
- Collaborate with MCFD social workers attend team meetings and training and engage with community professionals.
EDUCATION TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
- Degree (preferred) or Diploma in Human Service Social Work or relevant field
- Minimum one 1 year experience in a Family Support capacity including crisis intervention support to families.
- Or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
SKILLS KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:
- Proficient in applying current researchbased theories methods and interventions relevant to families coping with issues of violence addictions and mental health.
- Skilled in assessing and identifying individual and family strengths challenges and risks with the capacity to assist families in setting and achieving goals.
- Adept at crisis management demonstrating a strong ability to respond effectively in urgent situations.
- Collaborative approach in working with social workers and community professionals to achieve shared objectives.
- Exemplary professionalism characterized by ethical decisionmaking and accountability.
- Strong teamwork collaboration and conflict management skills to foster a positive working environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel to specified areas in and around Kamloops as outlined in our contracts.
REQUIREMENTS
- BC Class 5 drivers license or equivalent with a Safe Driving Record
- Ownership of a safe reliable vehicle insured with Business Use for $5M liability. (Reimbursement for the costs of additional insurance)
- Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: CPRC Mandt (RC) Safe Talk MCFD Privacy Safe Food Handling AntiBullying and Harassment
