Job Description
Science and Technology Corporation (STC) is looking to fill a Composites Machinist position supporting
the Manufacturing Applications Branch (MAB) at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC). We are looking
for a highly skilled and motivated individual to provide technical support for the machining of test
hardware for exploration aeronautical and aerospace flight programs.
Primary Duties:
- Experience in precision machining of composites substrates panels and test articles to exacting tolerances.
- Read and interpret drawings to produce test substrates and coupons.
- Familiar with ASTM standards related to composite materials testing and coupons needed to support various testing.
- Ability to operate conventional machines such as lathes mills grinders drill presses band saws and other general machine shop equipment.
- Possess good communication skills both oral and written.
- Ability to read and understand detailed manufacturing work orders engineering process instructions and drawings.
- Must be able to become certified to wear a respirator.
- Ability to use calipers micrometers and precision scales.
- Ability to use conventional and advanced machining equipment to cut specific samples from composite panels following the specified orientation of cuts as provided by researchers.
- Capability to perform tabbing and bonding following LaRC Polymeric (training will be provided for certification).
- Ability to read and work independently from detailed drawings.
- Ability to follow strict adherence to established fabrication policies and procedures.
- Fully comply with all safety regulations and provisions.
- Valid VA Drivers License
- Ability to pass STC and Government background check.
- Candidate must be a selfstarter able to work independently and in group settings.
- Able to multitask set priorities to ensure customer and project deliverables are met.
Requirements
Preferred skills:
- Ability to use E2 software a plus along with computer skills for email and Microsoft Office.
- Operate equipment such as forklifts overhead cranes.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 applications especially Outlook and Excel.
