Position Summary
The International Student Advisor position manages a case load of international student immigration requests and benefits using knowledge of related Department of Homeland Security DHS regulations and independent judgement of their applicability; answers international student questions related to immigration cultural adjustment health insurance finances and other relevant issues; contributes to planning and delivery of International Student Orientation and other international student programs on and off campus.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree. Experience working with international student populations in a higher educational environment; or previous experience living working or studying abroad. US citizenship or Permanent Residency is required per Department of Homeland Security regulations. Ability to learn F1 regulations and serve as a Designated School Official. An understanding of the needs and concerns of international students and scholars. Strong intercultural communication skills. Ability to prioritize workload. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work as a team player in a fastpaced environment. Experience with event planning and/or student programming in a higher educational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree in Student Affairs Educational Leadership International Education or related field. One year of experience as an international student advisor and serving as a Designated School Official. Competency in a foreign language. Demonstrated ability to work with international student populations in a higher educational environment. Experience creating programs and events to serve the needs of an international student community on campus. Experience with social media and website maintenance.
