Volunteers of America Colorado believes unique challenges require unique and thoughtful solutions. VOA creates specialized programs to meet the critical needs of the communities we serveour programs across Colorado look different because each community is distinct. We support Denvers homeless veterans who have been underserved and prepare preschoolers challenged by poverty to be successful in elementary school and beyond. Wherever we go we engage faith relationshipbuilding and volunteers to lift up and support Colorados most vulnerable citizens.



JOB SUMMARY


The Veteran Program Specialist assists human service programs in meeting the needs of persons seeking assistance. Inputs initial assessment functions intakes and recertification for clients engaged in services. The Veteran Program Specialist supports case management with administrative duties as assigned. This position serves the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program in the Denver Metro region. SSVF is a rapid rehousing program that serves Veterans and Veteran families who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their housing.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides administrative and programmatic support services for client service teams.
  • Conducts eligibility screening and intake appointments with prospective program participants
  • Assists with front desk coverage as needed
  • Performs regular audits of files to ensure compliance
  • Assists with reconciling financial statements including Temporary Financial Assistance
  • Assists with by name list tracking and data entry into the homeless management information system
  • Provide help to the team on an asneeded basis with habitability inspections running checks dropping off items for clients
  • Collects pertinent statistics and prepares reports as required by supervisor and according to funding source guidelines.
  • Supports hiring practices for the program
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

COMPETENCIES

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • N/A

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OF THE POSITION

  • Associates degree in communication human services administration or related fields.
  • Must possess a Colorado drivers license and statemandated automobile insurance.
  • Must possess a personal vehicle that may be used for workrelated travel (reimbursement for mileage is available).
  • Must complete agency and program credentialing within 12 weeks of hire and maintain credentialing standards thereafter.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATION OF POSITION

  • 1 year of related experience (preference for experience with administrative support and data entry)
  • Bachelors Degree in a related field.

  • Ability to respectfully and professionally serve individuals hailing from diverse backgrounds cultures ideologies and religions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to apply appropriate selfcare in the face of often difficult and/or traumatic situations which commonly present while working with persons in need of services.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel throughout the programs service area is required on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to work in diverse and at times uncomfortable environments such as homeless shelters service facilities streets offices and all other locations as necessary to fulfill program objectives.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • FullTime or PartTime as indicated in the posting.
  • Work hours vary depending upon program requirements but are typically scheduled around a 40hour work week.
