With over 400 employees in Southern Colorado you would be joining a mighty team of support and administrative staff case managers clinicians physicians nurses and others in our efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of our community.

Were hiring a Peer Support Specialist to join us our Recovery Solutions Center located at 2003 E. Fourth Street in Pueblo.

Work Schedule: Monday Friday 8:00 AM 5:00 PM

What Youd Be Doing

Peer Support Specialists have progressed in their own recovery from substance abuse or a mental health condition and selfidentify as peers. Because of their own life experiences peers can support others in crises and assist them in recovery so they can remain in their community. The peer support specialist provides outreach and acts as a role model ally mentor planner advocate educator resource connector and tour guide for clients.

Under the supervision of the recovery services manager the Peer Support Specialist is responsible for

  • Informing training supporting and empowering consumers of the Center.
  • Establishing and maintaining professional boundaries and contacts in the workplace.
  • Understanding and respecting all aspects of client/employee confidentiality.
  • Assisting consumers in articulating goals and needs and advocating for self.
  • Providing information and resources to consumers.
  • Linking consumers to community resources/agencies.
  • Assisting consumers in completing applications and or forms.
  • Acting as a role model in demonstrating appropriate boundaries communication and coping skills.
  • Promoting hope personal responsibility empowerment education and selfdetermination.
  • Assisting in connecting consumers to the Center and promoting activities and membership.
  • Facilitating or cofacilitating selfhelp and peer support groups.
  • Assisting with daily activities such as shopping and light housekeeping.
  • Assisting consumers in developing social and living skills to increase community integration.
  • Training individuals how to access and utilize public transportation.
  • Training and providing guidance/mentoring to volunteer peer specialists.
  • Writing and submitting daily progress notes monthly member selfevaluations and sixmonth screenings into an electronic health records system.
  • Attending and participating in events conferences and trainings within the mental health system and in the community.
  • Assisting with trainings provided by the Center.

Physical requirements include the following:

  • Must be ableto remain in a stationary position at least 50 of the time.
  • Frequently communicates with physicians about medical notes must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Occasionally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator copy machine and computer printer.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Personal knowledge of and experience with mental illness or substance use
  • Valid Colorado driver license and access to reliable transportation during work hours
